Urban Fire: Where New Jersey Pizza & Italian Pizza Collide

If there’s one thing I could eat every day and not get bored…it’s pizza. Outside of New Jersey or New York, you can’t really get amazing pizza, except for one major exception: Italy. At Urban Fire in downtown Madison,  NJ pizza and classic Neapolitan pizza collide to make your taste buds happy.

Urban Fire, which opened in 2014,  is a modern take on classic pizza. Owner Anthony Saporito had a dream to own a pizzeria, so he quit his day job and made it happen. At Urban Fire he  has created a friendly environment where you can eat pizza that you design yourself, and it’s brought out to you in record time.  This isn’t a “fast food” restaurant…but you get your food fast!

How does it all work? You start with the dough. Urban Fire uses stretched dough using only “00” flour imported from Italy.

Then you get to choose your toppings, and they have over 30 to pick from. You start with a base (margarita, tomato pie, bianca (white pizza), or verde (pesto). Their toppings range from Anchovies to Spicy Soppressata, Oancetta, Farm Fresh Eggs, Shrimp, and Truffle Cream (to name a few).

Don’t like making decisions? You can order one of their specialty pies. I ordered the Del Mare pizza (Rock Shrimp, Pesto, Sun-Dried Tomatoes, Garlic, Oregano, Red Chili Flakes, EVOO).

Once the (very friendly staff) makes your pizza…

It goes into their wood-fired 900 degree oven. The oven, which comes straight from Naples, cooks your pizza in under 90 seconds. It’s that easy!

Mmmm pizza…

In addition to their pizzas, Urban Fire offers appetizers (or middles), salads, paninis, and sandwiches. I sampled their Arancini (rice balls), Pallini (ricotta cheese ball filled with Prosciutto), and their Polpetti (Bite-sized Homemade Meatballs & Sauce with Shaved Parmigiano Reggiano). Everything there is delicious.

For drinks they offer imported Italian sodas and water:

As well as a Coke Freestyle machine with over 100 different flavors and endless combinations.

Got room for dessert? Urbans Fire offers  Nutella Pizza, and Zeppolis which you can get a side of Nutella with. I can never turn down Nutella.

Urban Fire is delicious, quick, easy, and affordable. As someone who ate pizza 10 days straight in Italy, I can vouch that their pizza is authentic as it comes.
