Twin Elephant Brewing Company: Review
Located in Morris County, Twin Elephant Brewing Company is another “North Jersey” brewery to check off my list! I headed there with friends on a hot day in July looking for cold brews. I was lucky enough when I was there to meet all three owners; Tim, Scott and Cindy, who opened their brewery in May of 2016.
The three co-owners started as homebrewers before deciding to open their own place. They all grew up in the vicinity of Chatham Borough, and felt the community would be a great space for their brewery. Their vision was to offer a fresh variety of high quality, handcrafted ales and lagers brewed mindfully with locally sourced ingredients when available. They feel that “just like music, most everything has been done before and the key is trying to find you own style and niche to put your own unique stamp on things.”
After taking the tour of of their microbrewery space, we walked into the brewery where i fell in love with the reclaimed wood that makes up their walls, bar, tables, and seating! It was beautiful and gave the brewery a rustic feeling. Plus, the brewery is one of the bigger ones I’ve been to so there was plenty of seating and places to hang out.
Twin Elephant has a great variety of beers on tap, so there is something to please anyone who visits whether they are a quasi beer fan or a hard core craft beer aficionado. When I went to visit they had 5 beers on tap, so we tried all five in a flight.
Beers on Tap:
– Wally Pip; Hoppy American Pale Ale 4.9% ABV
– Rugged Snuggle; American Brown Porter 6.2% ABV
– Mr. Pinkerton; American Wheat with Hibiscus 4.3% ABV
– Loddy Daddy; Specialty Porter (chocolate, coconut, vanilla bean) 4.7% ABV
– Dibs; Saison with Jarrylo Hops 6.8% ABV
Although I enjoyed all 5 beers I tried, I think Mr. Pinkteron made it into my top 10 beers of all time! Smooth and sweet (but not too sweet), this beer was definitely unique.
Unlike some other breweries, they do not have flagship beers but rather take styles and run variants on them experimenting with grain bills, hop profiles, yeast & bacteria strains, and secondary ingredients like fruit/vegetables/spices, etc. Their style of beer ranges from Belgian to Weizen, Bitter to Cream, IPA to Stout, and many in between. It is safe to assume that you will always be trying new beers upon each visit to Twin Elephant!
What you can expect to find at Twin Elephant Brewing Co is a very comforting, unique environment that gives you a positive experience of tasting their beer. Their friendly owners and bartenders are more than willing to have conversations about the beer your drinking, answer any questions you might have, and make you feel at home. I really enjoyed visiting and definitely plan on going back next time I’m in the area. I can’t wait to see what else they brew!
