This weekend has pretty much everything – Mermaids, Mummers, and the Return of the New Jersey Home and Garden Show (I didn’t have another M). Time to bundle up and leave the house to explore what NJ has to offer (or not, you do you). Here are my top ten picks for February 25 – 27, 2022

Mermaids Opening Weekend at the Adventure Aquarium
February 24- March 13

The New Jersey Home and Garden Show
February 25 – 27
Remodeling, design, landscape professionals and a popular repurposing/DIY expert video blogger will inform and enlighten visitors to the 32nd Annual New Jersey Home & Garden Show, February 25-27 at the New Jersey Convention Center in Edison. Visitors will see ideas and products from 100 remodelers, contractors, interior designers, landscapers and kitchen & bath designers. The handcrafted work of artisans and craftsmen will be for sale in the Marketplace area.

Philadelphia Mummers Mardi Gras at Renault Winery

12 Philadelphia Mummers String Bands are heading to Renault for a day of live performances & activities! If you missed the classic sounds of the Mummers String Bands on New Year’s Day, be sure to come out to Renault for plenty of strutting at this family friendly event. We’ll be featuring festive food & drinks in our indoor & outdoor restaurants, with a variety of food trucks & vendors in tow. Maple Sugaring at Howell Living History Farm
February 26 at various times
Join Pat Heaney, Assistant Director of Education, and discover the history, folklore, and science of maple sugaring. Visit our maple trees, find out how we tap them using drills and spiles, and try a sample of sweet maple sugar. Learn about the evaporation process and how sticky sap transforms into sweet maple syrup. The operation of our outdoor evaporator is dependent on the amount of sap the trees produce and the weather. It may not be running during all program sessions. Dress for both indoors and outdoors and wear your boots!

Highland’s Annual Chili Cook-Off
February 27, 2PM – 6PM
The Highlands Business Partnership’s Chili Cook-Off fundraiser at Proving Ground. There will be performances by bag pipe bands and The Jig Factory, Daly’s Irish Dancers. All proceeds will benefit the 2022 St. Patrick’s Day Parade, taking place on March 19. There will be two Chili Cook Off contests. The “Professional” Cook Off (commercial) will begin at 4 pm sharp and the “Amateur” Cook Off (residents) will begin promptly at 5 pm. Once the chili lovers have tasted all contestants’ chili, they will vote for their favorite and drop their ballot in the ballot box. The results will be tallied and the winners will be announced at 6 pm. Prizes will be awarded to the winner of each contest. In addition to the People’s Choice, there will be an independent panel of judges.
