It’s President’s Day Weekend and Valentine’s Day weekend (again?) in NJ. There’s a lot of wine and chocolate to consume at different NJ wineries, the return of the Big Brew Festival in Morristown, and family-friendly events featuring ice sculptures and maple sugar. Time to bundle up and leave the house to explore what NJ has to offer (or not, you do you). Here are my top ten picks for February 18 – 20, 2022

Maple Sugaring at Howell Living History Farm
February 19 at various times

Join Pat Heaney, Assistant Director of Education, and discover the history, folklore, and science of maple sugaring. Visit our maple trees, find out how we tap them using drills and spiles, and try a sample of sweet maple sugar. Learn about the evaporation process and how sticky sap transforms into sweet maple syrup. The operation of our outdoor evaporator is dependent on the amount of sap the trees produce and the weather. It may not be running during all program sessions. Dress for both indoors and outdoors and wear your boots!

Visit Terhune Orchards Vineyard and Winery as they celebrate Valentine’s Day. Bring your loved one, friends, and family to enjoy sweet treats. With 16 varieties of wines, guests can enjoy a wide array of offerings. For this weekend, they are offering a special wine and chocolate pairing of locally made chocolates and Terhune wines. Chocolate pairing includes wine flight, chocolates, and a souvenir glass. They have partnered with Pierre’s Chocolates of New Hope, PA known for their old-world recipes and single-origin artisan chocolates. Ice Sculpture Philly will be back again for a two-day live carving event! Join the fun on the Green from 12pm-2pm to watch as giant ice blocks are sculpted into stunning 3-D figures right before your eyes! Maplewood Arts & Culture’s Black History Month 2022

A celebration of great Black Composers. The event features an lightening and inspiring selection of great music, featuring top student ensembles of Maplewood and South Orange. Harambee Chamber Orchestra and Columbia High School Virtuosi perform works by Florence Price, William Grant Still, Hanna Benn, Stephen Spottswood, Adolphus Hailstork, and James Weldon Johnson.
