Tootie’s Diner & Ice Cream Cafe in New Egypt: Review
If you’re looking for a diner with a small town charm, than Tootie’s Diner and Ice Cream Cafe in New Egypt is the place for you.
Located on Main St filled with cute shops, Tootie’s Diner has been been around since the 70’s giving the locals a great place to eat for breakfast and lunch (they do no serve dinner). This cash only diner has affordable meals that everyone can appreciate.
I was there during a busy brunch hour, and the diner was filled with families and truckers. Since the diner is one of the smallest diners I’ve been to (it might be the smallest so far), they only need one waitress. In fact the entire diner can fit in one picture:
The diner is family owner and run. Tootie and Harry Brusnahan had a dream of opening their own restaurant with home cooked meals. They opened their first Tootie’s diner in 1972 in Cookstown, NJ. After their success of the first diner, they opened their second location in New Egypt in 1980. Currently their son Matt is running the family business with the same integrity and pride as his parents.
Food wise they have a lot of different options. You can grab breakfast ranging from omelettes, to French toast, to waffles etc. For lunch you have melts, seafood, burgers, sandwiches and more. Their menu is far from boring though! Items they’re known for are their Honey Bacon Burger made with homemade mustard, Southern fried chicken, the “King Chop” (fresh chopped sirloin with fried onions and mushrooms, cheese, and homemade gravy), and “Tootie’s Traditional” (fresh turkey or roast beef with their homemade gravy). Bes thing about their menu…nothing is over $11!
I decided to get something off their specials list, a Belgian waffle with fresh fruit. AMAZING. I can’t remember the last time I had a waffle. Added bonus to getting a meal there…bottomless coffee.
Of course I would be crazy not to mention that Tootie’s is known for their ice cream. Since I was there in February I did not partake, but I will definitely be back when the weather gets warmer.
