The Chicken or the Egg in Beach Haven: Review
Opened seasonally, The Chicken or the Egg in Beach Haven is one of the most popular diners/restaurants in New Jersey and has been since they opened their doors Memorial Day weekend in 1991.
Locally known as “The Chegg” this popular spot is known for their big breakfasts, award winning clam chowder, sandwiches, and of course their wings. Their legendary wings are available in 17 sauces in both original (breaded) and naked.
I’ve tried visiting the Chicken or the Egg in the past but couldn’t get a table due to a long wait and a limited schedule. However when I arrived on a cloudy weekend afternoon we were seated right away! I was excited!
While I glanced over their menu I drank an iced coffee made with Douwe Eggberts 100% Columbian Coffee with Hazletnut syrup. SO good. And how cool are their tables?
In general their decor is really cool. There’s a lot to take it!
I started my meal at the Chegg with wings, because how could I not? I got my wing with their classic mild sauce since I wasn’t brave enough to try anything hotter. Having said that, their sauces are available for purchase.
I must say their wings definitely rank in my top ten. They were huge, juicy, and delicious.
Although I was tempted to get their award winning clam chowder, especially since you could order it in a bread bowl, I decided not to because it was pretty hot out that day. They also sell their chowder to go!
Ultimately I decided to get their fish burrito (fried cod, rice, cilantro, pepperjack cheese, lettuce, tomato and diced onion) which came with of chips, salsa and sour cream. I added on their guacamole for an extra $2 (worth it!).
Such a great burrito! I was left feeling full for pretty much the rest of the day.
Feeling more “brunchy”, my husband got the Goshdarnwich, a pretty epic breakfast sandwich made with egg, bacon & cheese between two slices of thick french toast and a side of home fries.
Personally if I was going to get breakfast I would get their Cinnamon Roll French Toast, but that’s just me.
Between their super reasonable prices, wings, creative meals, and lots of vegetarian options I can see why there’s usually a line out the door to get a table at the Chicken or the Egg.
