#TBT: Eat, Play, and Stay at the Beach Shack and Rusty Nail Restaurant
The weather is sooooo cold, and I’m dreaming of a shore vacation. For this #TBT I am reposting my trip to the Beach Shack Hotel by the beach in Cape May.
I recently took an amazing trip to Cape May, one of my favorite places in NJ, to explore the area and write about all the incredible things to do there. Little did I know that the hotel I was staying at would make the list of my to-do list.
Located across the street from the beach, the Beach Shack is a recently remodeled hotel owned by Cape May Resorts.
This family-friendly and dog-friendly vacation spot is also home to the Rusty Nail, an iconic surfer bar and restaurant.
The hotel features amenities like free parking with your hotel stay (super convenient), hygiene products like shampoo, conditioner etc from Beach Plum Farms, a kitchenette (complete with a mini-refrigerator, microwave, and coffee maker), and more.
One of my favorite things to do during my trip was sitting on the beach which was steps from the hotel. A Cape May vacation is nothing without a trip to the beach, and the Beach Shack is right there. Can’t get easier than that.
The Beach Shack also offers complimentary beach badges, towels, chairs, and umbrellas. No need to pack up the car…everything you need is located right at the hotel. It was refreshing.
I got the privilege to sit on the beach, read a book, and even had the opportunity to see dolphins from where I was positioned! Definitely the highlight of my trip.
On my first night there I grabbed dinner at the Rusty Nail located on the premises of the hotel and is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. It’s a family-friendly and dog-friendly restaurant, so dog-friendly that they offer a menu just for dogs!
In addition to food, the restaurant features live music, a sand bar, an indoor fireplace, a shuffleboard, and an outdoor fire pit. Plus kids’ meals are served on a souvenir Beach Shack Frisbee.
Breakfast options include eggs, omelets, pancakes, and French toast; lunch items like burgers, sandwiches, salads, soup, nachos, tacos, and mac and cheese; and dinner like seafood, ribs, steak, and pasta.
I started my meal with a margarita and their fried mac and cheese balls. You can’t go wrong with a margarita, and I highly recommend the Rusty Shack’s classic. I also recommend their mac and cheese balls, which are deep-fried and served with horseradish dipping sauce.
For dinner, I ordered their popular crab cakes and paired them with a strawberry whiskey sour. Their whiskey sour is made with fresh strawberries, Maker’s Mark, and simple syrup.
I can’t stress how delicious the crab cakes were. They came with an option of two sides so I ordered their old bay fries and their seasonal vegetables. You can order their crab cakes broiled or fried.
And for dessert, I had their homemade key lime pie with tea. It was a great way to end the evening.
This spot was perfect for my vacation because it was walkable to almost everything I wanted to do in downtown Cape May and West Cape May. I’m all about convenience and stress-free trips, and this hotel made everything easy breezy.
Before I left I also grabbed time at the pool, enjoyed time in my beautiful room, and took all my Beach Plum Farm products to-go.
