Sunken Silo Brew Works Pays Homage to It’s Hunterdon History
There’s a new brewery in Hunterdon County! I was lucky enough to visit Sunken Silo Brew Works during their grand opening weekend in mid November 2019. Needless to say, the place was PACKED.
Located in Lebanon on Route 22, Sunken Silo Brew Works is located roughly a mile away from reservoir, which sits on nearly 200 feet above abandoned homes, barns and silos from which residents were displaced in the 1960s to meet the regions need for a new source of drinking water. These silos now sit at the bottom of the deepest reservoir in New Jersey (hence the name sunken silo).
You can expect to find anywhere between six to twelve beers on tap with options like East and West Coast IPAs, American wheats, porters, pilsners, kolsch, lagers, and more.
Beers they had on tap:
– The Bowl, an American Wheat 5.5% ABV
– Fredzacca, New England IPA 7.1% ABV
– The Tip, West Coast IPA 7.1% ABV
– DRye, a Rye Amber Ale 5.4% ABV
– Urmstorm Lager, 5.4% ABV
– ‘Merica, American Pale Ale 5.6% ABV
– Ignoble, Kolsch, 5.1% ABV
Because it was opening weekend, two kegs were kicked before we even got there! So we tried what we could: The ‘Merica, The Ignoble(which was my personal favorite), and the Bowl.
Additionally the brewery is located next to a local hot spot, Metropolitan Seafood, a seafood and gourmet food market. Customers can purchase seafood and other snacks to enjoy while they enjoy their brew (my friend’s chicken fingers and fries looked amazing). Metropolitan Seafood has a take out menu located in the brewery (including specials!) such fish and chips, ahi tuna burgers, po boys, oysters, and more.
