I’m a big fan of downtown Somerville, so it’s great to know that the area has one of the best ice cream places in the area: Summer Ville Homemade Ice Cream.

Located on Main St, this year round ice cream shop opened in March of 2016. Elio DeFranco, a nearby resident of Bridgewater, creates and makes all of Summer Ville’s ice cream flavors. He is a self taught ice cream connoisseur and makes all the ice cream by hand and in house.

All of their ice cream is gelatin, egg, and gluten free. They also have vegan flavors as well.

One of the things that makes Summer Ville unique is that they have 55+ flavors of ice cream to customers at any time. DeFranco likes to focus on unique flavors like chocolate malt cookie crumble, amaretto fig and almond, and Somerville mud.

Of course they also feature your classic favorites vanilla, chocolate, mint chocolate chip, and cookie dough. You can also order pints to go, custom ice cream cakes, and thick shakes with mix-ins that they call Hurricanes.

Because they are open year round expect to find flavors that are special to the Season like fruit flavors in the Spring and Summer, Fall flavors like pumpkin, and peppermint in Winter. Other seasonal finds include homemade soup and pies! Not looking for ice cream? They also serve hot dogs, real fruit smoothies, and homemade hot chocolate.

In addition to making their own ice cream, Summer Ville also makes their own cones, churros, and brownies that can be combines with their ice cream for awesome sundaes and banana splits.

Since it was a beautiful Spring day on my visit I decided to get two fruit flavors: lemon honey and orange pineapple. It was the perfect fruit flavor combination for a hot day!
