Spring has Sprung at Halifax in Hoboken

With Spring finally in session, it’s great to go to a restaurant that appreciates the season and creates new items to their menu to commemorate it! Halifax Restaurant in Hoboken is a beautiful restaurant which has created a Spring menu for their patrons to enjoy.

If you haven’t visited Halifax before, it’s a restaurant located inside the W Hotel on River St. It opened in May of 2016 as a creative collaboration of owner Michael Barry and Executive Chef Seadon Shouse who hails from Nova Scotia (Halifax is the capitol of Nova Scotia).

The open windows of Halifax give you beautiful view of Riverside Park and the New York City Skyline.

Halifax features “North-Eastern farm and coastal cuisine, with an emphasis on local and sustainable ingredients.” Their food is sourced from New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania. Executive Chef Seadon Shouse creates house smoked meats and seafood as well as his own sea salt made directly from the water in Montauk.

Additionally their beverages are locally sourced as well. Their menu features local craft beer including Jersey City’s Departed Soles (their Pale Ale is pictured below).

Their Spring menu also includes new specialty cocktails. I enjoyed my light pink “Rosé Maria” made with Patron, Cointreau, and Rosé wine.

On to the food…

We started with an appetizer off of their Raw Bar. The Sea Bream Tar Tar is made with a lime emulsion, radish, fennel, caviar, and sunchokes.

Next we had the Three Cheese Gnocchi with spring peas, hen of the woods, and arugula.

As well as the Maine Blue Cod served with NJ clams, white wine, green garbanzo, nduja, and crème fraiche.

Luckily we left room for dessert! Their desserts are made by top pastry Chef Stuart Marx, who creates brilliant desserts with Northeastern inspirations. We shared a goat cheese cheese cake served with walnut and a side of beet sorbet.

Overall a beautiful night and a tasty meal at Halifax. Thank goodness for Spring! (Although I’d gladly visit the Halifax in Winter, Fall or Summer)
