Spinning Wheel Diner in Lebanon: Review
I love Hunterdon County! I love driving through the area and seeing the mountains and nature. It was on one of those drives we drove past the Spinning Wheel Diner and decided to check it out.
One of the things I loved right off the back of the exterior of the diner. It was very pretty to look at! It was nice to stand in front of all that chrome and neon and get a sense of nostalgia.
Another thing I loved about the exterior of the diner was their fish pond! I can definitely say I have never seen a diner with a fish pond before, plus they had a feeding station in case you wanted to feed the fish. Selling the name of the diner, there was a cute spinning wheel in the pond cycling water. Adorable.
Inside the diner was clean and typical of an average diner. You had a nice counter, booth seats etc.
Their menu was enormous and had so much to choose from that I was a little overwhelmed. I really could not decide what to get!
Their breakfast menu had multiple pages and featured specials like the “Jersey Border” (homemade potato pancakes, Virginia ham, two poached eggs, hollandaise sauce, and fruit) and a list of “creative omelets” featuring the “Tel Aviv” (corned beef, pastrami, tomatoes, onions, swiss) and the “Chili Cheese” omelet (homemade chili, onions, cheddar, guacamole) to name a few.
The diner also featured a great list of sandwiches including the “Highway Special” (hot pastrami open faced with Swiss and horseradish sauce on rye) and the “Caliente Cheesesteak” (roast beef, jalepeno peppers, onions, tomato, salsa, and cheddar). They had an impressive list of burgers too, including a 1lb burger they deemed the “Giant Burger” which came on a roll with onions and cheese. They also had a list of sliders including “Gyro Burger Sliders” which I was very tempted to get.
Ultimately, I was swayed to get a sandwich especially since the sandwiches came with soup and I was hungry! Of course I had to get my favorite, matzoh ball soup, which was very good.
After a while of deciding what to get, I got the Chicken and Eggplant sandwich. The sandwich included 2 basil chicken breasts, FIVE pieces of fried eggplant, a side of marinara sauce and a big portion of fries. Needless to say I barely ate half of my meal before taking it home.
Overall, the Spinning Wheel Diner gets a big thumbs up from me for good food at affordable prices (my entire meal with soup was under $10), big portions, a creative menu, and a unique location.
