New Jersey Isn’t Boring got the chance to interview Jesus Nunez about his upcoming gallery and what makes it different.
How did you get started?
I’ve always been an artist. I started really expressing myself with art when I was a teenager in Madrid. My main focus was street art. As an adult, I turned my artistic abilities more towards the culinary forms of art, thriving for 20+ years leading many fine dining restaurants in Spain and New York City. Once the pandemic hit, I lost my career in the restaurant industry, and so I decided to turn back to my roots as a visual artist. As a result, here I am now opening up my very own art gallery in Fall 2021!

How did you come up with the concept for your gallery?
Over the past year, I had gotten to the point where I knew I needed to expand my art outside of my home studio. I am very ambitious, and I wanted a serious place to showcase my art. There aren’t many art galleries in my area, so I thought it would be a good business to add to the diversity of my local community. The journey has been both exciting and challenging for me thus far.
What makes your gallery stand out?
My goal is to make my gallery space feel warm and welcoming, home to different types of contemporary art. I see it as more than just an art gallery – really, the vision is for my gallery to become a small cultural center where I plan on partnering with different local businesses to host events. I am open to any kind of creative idea.
How did you choose your location?
I wanted to stay close to my home instead of commuting to Manhattan in traffic every day as I did for so many years. Besides, NYC is overly saturated with art galleries, and I wanted to create an artistic outlet that impacted my local community for the better. I want my gallery to be a place where people can come together to feel inspired.
What do you see for the future?
A lot of work! I hope that the future treats my family and my community well and that everyone involved enjoys being a part of the gallery’s success. The dream is for my gallery to become the go-to spot for bringing community members together to enjoy and discuss art.
