Slack Tide Brewing Co: Review
Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name…and that’s definitely the vibe at Slack Tide Brewing, located in Clermont, NJ.
The brewery is the brain child of two brothers, Jason and Tadhg Campbell, who were born and raised in Cape May County. They started home brewing together for five years before testing out their best beers on friends and acquaintances. After getting an enthusiastic reception from beer aficionados, they decided to move forward and open up their own brewery with Tadhg as their brew master.
They brewery opened up in December of 2015. The brother’s goal for the brewery was for Slack Tide Brewing Company to become a destination in Cape May County for locals to feel at home and for visitors to look forward to returning. Mission accomplished.
When you’re hanging out in their tap room, it feels like everyone knows each other…and on some nights all of them do. The brewery is family friendly and dog friendly as well, making it easy to stop by on a whim.
On to the beer…
Slack Tide Brewing Co typically has twelve beers on tap, ranging from IPAs to pale ales to stouts with lots in between including spiced ales, porters, and Belgian style beers. There is really something for everyone.
If you’re looking to try a few different beers, you can enjoy your beers in a flight (Four 4oz beers to a flight) OR you can partake in the “Slacker Special” which will give you the same amount of beer, but in a cool Slack Tide logo glass (which you can keep) for a little bit extra. Needless to say…
Slack Tide Brewing has four flagship beers on tap:
5 Fathom ABV: 5.9%; a classic American pale ale with a balanced hop profile.
Angry Osprey ABV: 6.8%; hop forward American IPA dry hopped with Citra and Centennial hops
Bell Buoy ABV: 7.3%; a classic Belgian Blonde Ale.
Monkey Face AVB: 5.3%; a full-bodied dry stout with a roasted coffee flavor. The beer named as a memorial tribute to the brother’s mother, Jane, who their uncles called “monkey face” when she was growing up.
Other beers I tried were their Treble Hook, a Belgian-Style Tripel with an ABV of 10.5%. It was also one of my favorites. Be sure to check out their beer list, because they have plenty to offer year round. And yes, they are open year round.
If you enjoyed their beer, which I assume you will, you can also take your beers to go in a growler or crowler!
Overall I had an amazing time hanging out at Slack Tide Brewing, and if I lived in the area it would probably be my local spot! Be sure to check em out next time you’re in Cape May County.
