Get Your Poke’ on at Proven Poke’ Co in Asbury Park!
Downtown Asbury Park is getting their poke’ on! Proven Poke’ Co is a new, fast casual restaurant located on Cookman Avenue that is getting a lot of attention due to it’s fun new Hawaii-inspired concept.
So what is poke’? Pronounced “POH-keh”, the new food trend translates to slice or cut in Hawaiian and refers to chunks of raw fish. At Proven Poke’ Co you can build fast, fresh and tasty poké bowls and burritos using the highest-grade fish with skillfully-crafted sauces, mix-ins and toppings. There’s something for everyone on the menu, including non-seafood, gluten and vegan options.
The owners of Proven Poke’ Co wanted to bring this new restaurant concept to Asbury Park, an area bursting with eclectic restaurant options that draws in people year round. Since opening of January 2018, they have been very busy in the community, and hope to expand to different cities in the future.
So how does it work?
When you step up to the counter you can build your own meal or pick one of their pre-designed “House Fave” meals (especially if you’re indecisive). You can either “roll up” or “bowl out” (aka get your meal as a burrito roll or a bowl).
You can choose everything from your protein, to your bases (rice, zoodles, nachos, or greens), and mix in toppings and sauces. Their toppings also include a exciting crunch…you can add in Fritos, Doritos, and Cheetos into your bowl or burrito!
Their toppings have everything from fresh avocado, edamame, pickled ginger, toasted coconut, and wonton crips (to name a few). Their sauces range from tangy to spicy and sweet, whether it’s their sriracha aioli or their sweet sesame. I sampled most of their homemade sauces, and they were amazing!
Once you pick your ingredient their chefs put together your meal right in front of you…
and viola! You’re ready to eat fresh, quality food.
I decided to get my meal with two proteins (tuna and salmon), edamame, avocado, pineapple, wonton crisps, and Fritos (I couldn’t resist) over zucchini noodles and brown rice. It was…delicious!
I also couldn’t resist their new Nitro coffee (which comes from Asbury Park’s Nitro Beverage Co), which had arrived the week of my visit (good timing). I enjoyed a toasted almond cold brew with my meal which was heavenly.
Proven Poké Co. serves the highest-quality, sashimi-grade, sustainable fish because it tastes better and Proven Poké is passionate about the ocean and wants to preserve it.
