“Oscar Shorts” Coming to Buzz Aldrin Middle School February 11
Once again, the Oscar Shorts Film Festival will feature all the 2016 Oscar-nominated Short Films in the Animated, Live Action and Documentary categories. The Festival will take place on February 11 at the Buzz Aldrin Middle School located at 173 Bellevue Avenue, Montclair, New Jersey.
Oscar Shorts’ mission is to bring students, industry professionals and local film lovers together to share an experience that entertains, educates, and inspires. By giving these “underdogs” of the Academy Awards an audience, the Festival helps to foster a greater understanding and appreciation of short films, and celebrate the talented individuals behind them.
“You will see some very powerful and provocative films. Many will move you in unexpected ways,” says Jeanne Reilly co-founder and co-producer of the event.
According to Corinna Sager, co-founder and co-producer of the festival along with Reilly, “These are films people hardly ever get to see. They’re undiscovered gems. ‘Oscar Shorts’ is one of the very few places in New Jersey where audiences can see all of them in one day. It’s a 15-film marathon!”
“Oscar Shorts” has something else that makes it special: each film is given a short introduction providing insights on the making of each film. “People love that,” says Reilly, “It gives depth to the viewing experience.”
Dr. Jill Sack, Principal of Buzz Aldrin Middle School, is equally enthusiastic. “We’re delighted to host the festival because it gives our students and the public a chance to see these wonderful films.” In addition, Brian Lacivita, the school’s Broadcast Studio instructor, will briefly showcase some of his students’ best work. There will also be a bake sale that day with proceeds going towards the purchase of new video equipment for the class.

Tickets are $12 for the morning, $15 for the afternoon, $25 for the full day. Free to the students and faculty of Buzz Aldrin Middle School.
