NJIB’s Quest to Find the Best Ice Cream in NJ
My clothes have been a little tighter recently thanks to a new quest I started to find the best ice cream in NJ. I even started a list of potential ice cream places in New Jersey HERE.
Since my first stop, I have had a ridiculous amounts of recommendations on where to go. I don’t know if it’s possible to make it to every location…but I will try my best.
Here are 4 of the spots I’ve hit so far:
The Colonia Dairy Maid (1075 St Georges Ave, Colonia, NJ) was the first place I had a chance to check out. Located in Middlesex County, this homemade ice cream place is CASH ONLY which would explain their low prices. They had so many options!! They were super busy on a rainy, cold night which says something about their customer base. They do not have seating indoors, so ate in the car, but they have plenty of outdoor seating for those nice, warm nights.
Ice Cream Choice: Nutella
Jefferson Dairy (741 NJ-15, Lake Hopatcong, NJ) is a family owned ice cream place which has been making ice cream since 1969. I met them at a block party at Lake Hopatcong State Park, so I haven’t been to their physical location yet. Despite having a crazy amount of fun flavors, I kept it simply by getting chocolate and vanilla, which was recommend to us by the guys seen below.

Lake Hiawatha Dairy (79 N Beverwyck Rd # 2, Lake Hiawatha, NJ) located in downtown Lake Hiawatha, has over 50 flavors of homemade ice cream to choose from. Even on a coldish and rainy day, they were still busy. They had a lot of fun flavors to choose from…but one in particular caught my eye…
Ice Cream Choice: Rainbow Cookie Ice Cream. It had chucks of rainbow cookies in it! <3 I loved it.
Jake’s Cree-mee Freeze Ice Cream (337 NJ-33, Manalapan Township, NJ) has been a family owned ice cream operation since 1991. Fun Fact: An episode from Sex and the City Season 5 was filmed there. They are known for their Homemade Orange Sherbet & Vanilla Swirl…so that’s exactly what I got! It was delicious! PS. The photo below is of a SMALL. I could not finish it all myself.

I still have a lot more to conquer! The Best Ice Cream in NJ quest continues! Stay Tuned!
