My Tour of Jersey Artisan Distillery
Yesterday was a very long day, sitting in the car trying to find things to do. Luckily I have been in contact with Jersey Artisan Distillery, the first distillery to open in NJ after prohibition.
My husband and I got a private tour with Krista Haley, who started the distillery with her partner Brent Braue. Brent and Krista do everything themselves 24/7 at JAD. They are proof(pun?) of working hard, playing hard to create a new business. On the tour we learned how they came to existence (a very interesting story for anyone who ever wanted to follow their dreams) and a little bit how they create their rum.
Their Busted Barrel Silver Rum is now stores, bars and restaurants all over New Jersey. Both the Busted Barrel Silver and Busted Barrel Dark were awarded Silver Medals at the New York World Wine & Spirits Competition. They make their silver rum from molasses made in Louisiana, and distill it through their custom copper stills and carbon filter.
And yes, at the end of the tour we got to taste the rum. And yes…we bought a bottle. And no…we’re not sharing. Get your own! We had the rum straight, and damn was it smooth!
They are working on vodka, gin, bourbon and whiskey….coming soon!
By then end of the Summer they should be renovating their warehouse space to include a tasting room which will be modeled after a Prohibition speakeasy. So yes, I will be going back if anyone wants to join me.
