Milltown Diner: Review

I recently visited the Milltown Diner, located in Milltown (Middlesex County), New Jersey. If you have never been to (or heard of) Milltown, it’s a great, small town near East Brunswick. My friends live there so I tend to visit there a lot. This was my first trip to the diner since I started New Jersey Isn’t Boring…and since my car was getting fixed in the area I figured this was the perfect time to review it.

The diner is located on Main St, they do not have their own parking but there is plenty of street parking available. This is a small town with great shops, so it’s good to park your car and walk around.

The diner itself is on the smaller side, but it’s clearly a hometown favorite. It’s also a diner with a throwback look with all of the wood paneling.

The owners knew everyone there (except for me) and the customers seemed to be their regular morning crowd.Everyone was very chatty, getting their morning coffee, and ordering off Milltown Diner’s extensive diner menu.

They had lots to choose from including their own “Milltown Omelette” (corned beef or pastrami and Swiss cheese), breakfast sandwiches (including the Cowboy Sandwich; Scrambled eggs, roast beef, provolone and BBQ sauce), pancakes, waffles, and French Toast (served Texas Style).

I decided to get something off of their breakfast special menu. For $8 I got  egg and cheese on a hard roll with a choice of meat (I chose turkey sausage). The special also came with a coffee or tea, a small juice, and a side of home fries.

The sandwich was delicious and very filling. I ate at 10am, and didn’t eat again until 4pm.  Their home fries were slightly burnt, just the way I like them.

Next time I think I’ll be ordering French Toast. I saw it on other people’s plates and really wanted to try theirs. Plus, they have great syrup options!

Typically this diner is only open for breakfast and lunch. For lunch you can get a burger off of their extensive burger list, paninis, wraps, salads, and sandwiches (including the Milltown Sandwich for $9; Turkey, bacon, tomato and onion. Served on grilled 7-grain bread, french fries, coleslaw, pickle and a cup of soup).

Overall, I was very pleased with my visit and intend to go back next time I’m in town.
