Millstone Diner: Review
This week, I got to meet up with one of my favorite bloggers and friends Hollie aka FueledbyLolz at a diner in between both of our houses…the Millstone Diner on Route 33 in Millstone, NJ. This massive diner used to be a popular restaurant in town, Luchento’s (where I celebrated my high school graduation 12 years ago), so I was definitely curious to see it now as a diner.
From the exterior of the diner, it still looks like a fancy Italian restaurant. Interior, it’s the same deal. Hollie and I kind of felt underdressed based on the decor and atmosphere, and we had to keep reminding ourselves that we were in a diner. Even the bathrooms had chandeliers! Since it’s a fairly new diner, so I’m not sure if they’re going to transition the look, but it’s really a beautiful location inside and out.
Their menu had lots of Italian options, including appetizers (mussels, calamari, clams, bruschetta), personal pizzas, “Mama’s Favorite” which including classic Italian pasta dishes and more. I’m not sure if anyone from Luchento’s is still involved with the current Millstone diner, but the menu does feature a “Luchento’s Salad” and a “Luchento’s Dip” sandwich.
The menu also includes diner classics like burgers, deli sandwiches, breakfast all day etc. I liked that some of their options are named after the area like the “Route 33” Sandwich(Barbecue grilled chicken topped with bacon strips, melted cheddar cheese and grilled red onions), the Exit 8 Sandwich (Chicken breast with bacon, lettuce, tomato and melted Swiss, served with honey mustard), and the Millstone Fruit Platter (which is fruit with cottage cheese and jello).
I should also mention that we got a bread basket, which I always enjoy at a diner, especially when I arrive hungry. Their bread was AMAZING. It was kind of like a garlic knot but not oily.
Their price point is fair based on the size of the their portions. I decided to get the Caribbean Salad which was $14 and came with a soup.
They did not have a matzoh ball soup (which did not surprise me since this is an Italian-ish diner), but they did have minestrone soup, a chicken vegetable, and an onion soup (which I got).
My salad was HUGE, and since I got to eat bread and soup I ended up taking most of it home. The Carribean Salad comes with blackened chicken and shrimp (very spicy) tropical fruit, lettuce and served with a raspberry vinaigrette. Delicious!
Overall, I was very pleased with the diner and since I only live 20 minutes away I will probably be returning sooner than later. There was lots of food on other tables that looked temping…
