Moonshine? Jersey Shine!
On Saturday, July 30th, 2016 Jersey Shine hosted their grand opening in Millville, NJ. The day before their grand opening, I traveled to Millville to check out their facility and try some of their moonshine. Their product is a grain neutral spirit infused with all natural juices. Plus, the corn they use to make the moonshine is locally sourced.
Founded by Carl L. Coombs in 2014, Jersey Shine opened to the public at Millville Municipal Airport complex in June of 2016. According to their website, the “Coombs family has a long history of producing wine and spirits ‘privately’, which Carl wanted to share with the area. Borrowing some of his family’s moonshine recipes, Carl created Jersey Shine – an all natural line of flavored moonshines. He spent a couple years handling the hundreds of details needed to put a craft distillery together, and in the Spring of 2016, partnered with private investor to bring Jersey Shine to the marketplace.”
Currently, everything at Jersey Shine is distilled and bottled at their small facility whose capacity fits 35 people inside. With their moonshine being bought by the case at local liquor stores, co-owners Carl Coombs and Paul Krug plan to hopefully expand their operation in the future.
When you arrive at Jersey Shine, you are welcome to try 3 of their moonshine flavors for free. Carl’s grandmother may be the best bartender I’ve ever had! Currently they are producing five flavored moonshines: Apple Pie, Black Cherry, Cranberry, Lemonade and Strawberry. Now that they’ve had their grand opening, be on the lookout for seasonal flavors throughout the year.
On weekends you can also take a tour of their facility, learn about the process and the history of the business as well. You can also purchase a specialty moonshine cocktail.
If you find yourself in the Millville area, I recommend a visit! Their moonshine is fantastic, and it’s Jersey made!
