Roadside Attraction: Hot Dog Johnny’s in Buttzville, NJ

Yes, Buttzville, NJ.

If you’ve ever traveled up Route 46 in Warren County you’ve definitely driven past Hot Dog Johnny’s, one of the most popular roadside eateries in the Garden State. With a cheap, easy menu with frosted buttermilk and birch beer it’s a spot that is definitely worth the pit stop.

Although this was my first time at Hot Dog Johnny’s I’ve been wanting to go ever since I saw their popular t-shirts (of course I had to get one). Until I had seen them I didn’t this place existed or that their was a town called Buttzville.

Family owned and operated since 1944, this hot dog institution was started by John Kovalsky. It began as a small modest stand to its current state as a sixties independent roadside stand. It is currently owned by Hot Dog Johnny’s daughter Patricia Fotopoulos who started working for her family in 1944 handing out sodas!

Some facts you need to know about Hot Dog Johnny’s is that it’s cash only, kid friendly, and dog friendly as well.

If the lines are long there’s no need to worry since their menu is limited to hot dogs, fries, buttermilk, birch beer, milkshakes, and soft drinks. You call also enjoy picturesque views of the Pequest River flowing in the background.

Hot Dog Johnny’s has been sited by the Travel Channel as being one of the most popular roadside stands across the country, and we’re lucky enough to have it our own state!
