George and Martha’s American Grille: Review
Looking for a restaurant with a great ambiance and fantastic comfort food? Then check out George and Martha’s American Grille, located in downtown Morristown, New Jersey.
On the night I went it had been a long and rainy week, and this fun restaurant and bar really lifted my spirits.
When you walk into the the restaurant, you are greeted by a hip and sophisticated atmosphere.
Their branding, inspired by our first President and first Lady George and Martha Washington, is everywhere! Even the bathrooms are labeled “George” for men and “Martha” for women! The little touches through out the restaurant from the art work to the lighting is fantastic.
On to the food…
Their menu is has a lot of options, but not so many that it makes it difficult to make a decision. Having said, there were many things on the menu I wanted to try.
We started with drinks and appetizers. George and Martha’s was doing a special Oktoberfest menu when we went, so we shared pretzel bites with served with whole grain Honey Dijon and white cheddar sauce.
We also shared their Fresh Baked Corn Bread, which our waiter highly recommended. The bread was served with a Bourbon Maple Glaze, with Sweet Butter and Roasted Corn Jam. It was AMAZING.
The restaurant has an extensive bar menu ranging for craft beer to specialty cocktails. My friend got a “confused mule” which was botanist gin, ginger beer, elderflower, fresh lime juice, cucumber, mint and rosemary simple syrup. Nothing boring about that!
I went to the restaurant with 2 friends, and we all got very different things.
My one friend got a salad, and before you quote “you don’t win friends with salad”, I must say I was jealous I did not order one myself! This is the “Park Avenue Cobb Salad”, and just look at the presentation! It stands tall instead of flat…crazy!
My other friend got the “Crispy Fried Chicken” entree which came with steak fries and house apple sauce.
I got the “Open Face Steak Sandwich” which was Grilled Chimichurri Hanger Steak, Topped with a Tomato and Arugula Salad, Served over Garlic Toast. I also got an order of sweet potato fries. You can find this sandwich under the “Handheld” portion of the menu, even though I ate it with a fork.
Despite being beyond full, we did not turn down the opportunity to share a dessert. After much decision, we chose the “Cookie Skillet”, mainly because my friend’s face lit up when the waiter described it. The dessert is an oversized warm cookie topped with ice cream. The current cookie skillet had Take 5 candy bars in it, so it was extra amazing.
I personally enjoy every trip I take to downtown Morristown, so now I have a new restaurant that I can frequent with friends whether it’s just to grab a full meal, a shared appetizer, or grab a drink at the bar. I highly recommend checking out George and Martha’s!
