Geets Diner & Lounge in Williamstown: Review
A little history on the Geets Diner…
I never got to review Geets diner before they unexpectedly closed in August of 2016. This beloved diner was around for 75 years in Williamstown before they closed abruptly due to bankruptcy.
In March 2018 the diner reopened with a new owner and a new staff, and the community greeted them with open arms. Sandy Cannon who lives in the area knew she was investing in an iconic piece of land that town did not want torn down.
The diner reopened under it’s original name and the new owners worked hard during the repairs to keep as many original fixtures as possible. Those original fixtures included their mirrors, original flooring in the main dining room, and keeping it’s chrome exterior and interior.
One of the things that kept the diner so memorable on Black Horse Pike, it’s Geets sign (known for having at least one letter’s lights out at a time) was also restored! The kitchen and bathrooms however were completely renovated, as well as the roof and everything that suffered due to it’s lack of upkeep.
As far of their menu is concerned, they are still featuring your favorite diner classic food. Their food is homemade and has plenty of options for customers to enjoy like pizza (available in personal or large), their popular wings, lots of sandwiches, specialty burgers like their Hoggin Burger (bacon, sausage, pork roll and scrapple with melted cheddar), hand spun milkshakes, freshly made desserts….oh and filet mignon.
I ordered one of their sandwiches, which came with a choice of soup or fries. Although their fries looked really good, I was excited to hear they had seafood bisque…which admittedly could have been risky at a diner. I’m happy to report the soup was delicious!
For my meal I got a chicken cheesesteak…which was huge. Because I was hungry I ate the full meal, so by the time I digested I was very, very full.
That didn’t stop me from ordering dessert (to go) because our waitress was so enthused about it. Their freshly made cheesecake was advertised as light and creamy, so I took it back with me…and ate in the second I got back home. It was advertised correctly!
The diner also features a full liquor menu which you can order with your meal, or enjoy it at the lounge/sports bar which is connected to the diner but has it’s own separate entrance.
Overall the diner is a perfect mix of old and new, and former customers will be pleased to see that not too much has changed…and whatever has changed has (hopefully) changed for the better.
