Elmer Diner in Elmer, NJ: Review
Salem County is a bit of a hike from where I live, but it is definitely one of my favorite places to visit. Farm land for days! My good friend Erin grew up there and has been telling me to go to her local diner, the Elmer Diner, since I started NJIB back in 2014. Since I was literally around the corner from there, I decided to check it out.
Located on Route 40, the Elmer Diner boasts that is has the best food, prices, and service (it says so right on their sign). Seeing this before I walked in the door gave me high expectations for my visit. The diner is family owned has been around since the 1940s, AND it’s been voted the best diner by the Daily Journal for the last 18 years, so I had a good feeling about it.
Their large and diverse menu has something for everyone. So far their sign was right, they did have amazing prices! In addition to their regular menu, they also offer “Super Specials” which ranges from $12-$17 and gives you an entree, soup or salad, 2 vegetables, and dessert.
The Elmer also offers typical diner fare from breakfast all day (however waffles are not served all day), sandwiches (paninis, wraps, hoagies, melts, open face, triple decker etc), salads, soup (including a crab bisque, snapper soup, oyster stew, and New England clam chowder), burgers, Italian specialties, steak, plenty of seafood options, and plenty of dessert.
After much consideration, I decided to get something off of their “melt” section, the Crab Meat Melt, which was served on an English Muffin with tomato and Mozzarella cheese.
The meal also came with the soup of the day, and I opted to get the Minstrone. Very good!
When my meal came, I was not expecting to to be so large! There was so much crab meat and there was plenty of fries. I ended up eating it all, but I did not eat the rest of the day since I was so full.
The entire meal was only $8.99! Such a great deal. Great food with great prices…check!
As for the service, all the staff was very friendly. Our waitress was very attentive, and I took note of the other staff and how they treated the patrons. Overall, great service!
I should take diner recommendations from my friends more often! Definitely one of the better diners I’ve been to.
