Downtown Somerville will light up the season with Holiday Jubilee on November 25
Joy and merriment will fill Downtown Somerville when thousands gather for the Holiday Jubilee on Saturday, November 25 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Residents and visitors alike will delight in a family-friendly celebration highlighted by the spectacular tree lighting, visit from Santa, festive music and entertainment, and delicious holiday treats. The free event kicks off a magical holiday season brimming with unique shopping and dining experiences in award-winning Downtown Somerville.
“The Holiday Jubilee is one of our most popular events of the year and it truly captures what the holiday spirit is all about,” said Beth Anne Macdonald, executive director of the Downtown Somerville Alliance (DSA). “Our entire community comes together—businesses, restaurants, charitable organizations and volunteers—to warmly welcome all those who call Somerville home or their favorite place to visit.”
The festivities begin at 5 p.m. on the Division Street Plaza as people gather to enjoy music and dancers in anticipation of Santa’s arrival on board Somerville’s vintage fire truck. Santa will light the towering tree, adorned with hundreds of energy efficient LED lights, and the holiday festivities will last all evening long.
Those searching for the perfect gift will also enjoy the eclectic, one-of-a-kind downtown shopping experience that has come to define Somerville. With more than two dozen store openings in the past five years, Downtown Somerville is the premier place to shop this holiday season. Since the Jubilee coincides with Small Business Saturday, many businesses and restaurants will be offering a variety of exclusive offers and experiences.
Holiday Jubilee Schedule:
5:15 p.m. – Music and dancers at Division Street Plaza
5:45 p.m. – Arrival of Santa for tree lighting and welcome from Somerville Mayor, Brian Gallagher, at Division Street Plaza
6 p.m. – Horse drawn carriage rides beginning at Division Street Plaza
6:15 p.m. – Free photos with Santa on the front lawn of the United Reformed Church, 100 West Main Street
“The Holiday Jubilee is such a special night in Somerville with so much happiness and joy in the air,” said Rev. Paul Janssen, pastor of the United Reformed Church. Located in the heart of Downtown Somerville, the church will host Santa for photos, serve free hot cocoa, and entertain visitors with the joyful sounds of a bell choir comprised of members and friends of the church.
