Diner Round Up – The Freeway Diner in Deptford
This review is my 52nd diner review for www.newjerseyisntboring.com! That means I have accomplished exactly a year’s worth of diner reviews since I started this blog/website on March 16th, 2014. Crazy!
Last weekend I went to The Freeway Diner in Deptford, NJ with fellow blogger, diner lover and friend, Hollie aka FueledbyLolz. You may remember (but probably don’t unless you read my diner reviews religiously) our last adventure to the Park Nine Diner in Freehold.
The Freeway Diner looks a little run down from the outside, but in my experience that sometimes means the food will be great. I don’t know why that is.
The inside is a total throwback, pink seats, old school chandeliers and this:
I hadn’t seen one of these in a diner is SUCH a long time and it made me feel so much joy. Mmm nostalgia.
While I waited for Hollie to arrive I ordered French Onion Soup, which you can get in a cup or a bowl with or without cheese. (But who gets it without cheese?)
For my entree I decided on getting something off their “Gold” menu, which has items which are all under $10. I got the broiled crab cakes which came with rolls, soup or salad, two sides or pasta. I got mashed potatoes and peas with my entree, and the French onion was included. Now…something that has NEVER happened before…I forgot to take a picture of my entree. It was a lot of food and the crab cakes were delicious, but unfortunately you’re just going to have to use your imagination.
Hollie very graciously sent me her pictures after I realized my mistake. She had an amazing looking Greek salad with Chicken.
Overall, don’t let appearances fool you, this diner was really great! The food was great and the prices are super affordable. You may run into some Deptford Mall traffic, but otherwise I highly recommend it!
