Diner Round Up: New Monmouth Diner in Middletown
The New Monmouth Diner is located right on Route 35 in Middletown. Fun Fact! It’s 7 minutes away from the Evil Clown of Middletown!
My friend lives in the area, so I decided to check it out when I was visiting him. He had been there before and had good things to say.
One of the things I liked about the diner right off the back, was the retro look and feel to the diner. There’s plenty of neon outside the diner, which you can see even when it’s dark, rainy and foggy outside. They also have a jukebox right when you walk in! Plus there are classic toy cars by the register, and very old cash register (for show only), and the booths are red and sparkly. Fun!
It was a rainy and gloomy night and I arrived at the diner very hungry. Solution? Soup! I was on a mission to find a menu item that came with soup. Luckily for me, I was eyeing a sandwich and it was only a $1 extra to add one on! Huzzah! I got a matzoh ball soup which was packed with plenty of chicken and veggies. Very, very good.
For my meal I ordered a shrimp po boy sandwich, mainly because I had never seen that on a menu before. This sandwich had fried lemon shrimp, lettuce, tomato, and cajun sauce. It was served on a very tasty hoagie roll and french fries. The cajun sauce was AMAZING! I made a good choice!
It was definitely enough food for two meals, but I ended up eating all of it in one sitting. It was SO good. It was the most expensive sandwich on their menu at $12, but it was definitely worth it.
I really enjoyed this diner and look forward to going back! I kept staring at what everyone in the diner got, so there is definitely more to try. Also, their dessert counter looked awesome!
