Cypress Brewing Company: Review
Cypress Brewing Company, located in Edison, is one of the few craft breweries in New Jersey that is open every day! So there really isn’t an excuse not to visit their location.
I ventured there around 1pm on Saturday. It wasn’t too busy that particular day (it was Easter weekend), so we got a chance to chat with Mike the bartender (Hi Mike!) who told us all about the beers they had on tap.
On this particular day they had eight beers on tap, but their vanilla porter was unavailable at the time. Still, we tried 7 beers for $12 which was a lot to try at an affordable price.
Beers They Had on Tap that Day:
– Rye ESB 5.1% ABV (English Style ESB)
– Riley’s Red Ale 5% ABV
– Seventeen Mile IPA 7.4% ABV
– Northern English Nut Brown 4.6% ABV (Dark and malty with roasted barley and chocolate malt)
– Knobbed Whelk 5.3% ABV (American Amber)
– Paradise Dubbel 6.4% ABV (Belgian Dubbel)
– Hooley Irish Red 5% ABV
Don’t you love the tasting glasses?
I love that this brewery collaborates with home brewers as well as other bars. Their Riley’s Red Rye is a collaboration with Uno’s Pizzeria and Grill in Metuchen, their Hooley’s Irish Red is a collaboration with Hailey’s Harp in Metuchen, and some of their other beers, including the Rye ESB, is with a local home brewer.
Everything I tried was fantastic. I was even a fan of the hoppier beers like their 17 Mile IPA.
My favorite was the Paradise Dubbel, and I took a growler home which my family ended up sharing that evening. I am partial to a Belgian style beer, and this Belgian Dubbel was a winner. Here is my growler on the bar:
I got the scoop that this brewery is constantly coming up with new beers, whether they be seasonal or year round, and that if we came back in 3 weeks they’d have new beers for us to try. So I will probably be back to their brewery sooner than later. I heard they make a Strawberry Basil Wheat beer, which personally sounds amazing.
I really enjoyed the experience of being at this brewery. It’s an industrial space like most craft breweries are, but the interior of this bar is clean and beautiful with trees painted on the walls. They have tables to sit and enjoy their beer, and they have two TVs behind the bar in case you want to chill there (maybe catch a sports game?).
Like all breweries, you can take a tour and learn more about their process…but for people like me who have been to many breweries and therefore have been on many tours, you can take a self guided tour as well.
In addition to trying their brews at the brewery (which you should do), their beer is also available at a some local Central Jersey bars.
And if I didn’t convince you to visit, then you should listen to George Wendt aka Norm whose picture is nicely displayed at the bar.
