Cold Spring Brewery in Cape May: Review
I love traveling to Cape May! There is always plenty to do whether it’s on or off season. One thing that you can do during all four seasons is take a trip to Cold Spring Brewery, located at Historic Cold Spring Village.
The village barn at Cold Spring Village was recently converted into a brewery, and has been bringing new business to this non profit historical site. In keeping with history, the beer they make comes from recipes that were created as far back as the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.
On my first visit there I wasn’t sure what to expect. When we pulled up all I could see was this beautiful barn, that had plenty of seating outside including a fire pit. Even at the end of December, the brewery had plenty of patrons which is always a good sign.
Walking inside the brewery is just as pretty. I was pleased to see that not only is the brewery family friendly, but it is dog friendly as well! Plus they also sell craft soda for those who want to enjoy the environment without alcohol.
We were greeted by a lovely bartender who took us on a small tour of the brewery. Then we had a chance to sample their beer.
They had NINE beers on tap, so my husband and I decided to sample eight beers in two flights.
We tried three out of their four flagship beers on tap:
– Cresse American Wheat 5.5% ABV
– Hildreth German Wheat 5.4% ABV
– Cold Spring Red 6% ABV
The brewery focuses on wheat and malty beer rather than hops, so if you’re an IPA preferred customer you may not find what you are looking for. Those who enjoy a wheat or stout will thoroughly enjoy what Cold Spring Brewery has to offer.
We also sampled all five of the Seasonal beers they had on tap:
– Vanilla Infused German Wheat 5.4% ABV
– Christmas Spice Ale 8% ABV
– Gingerbread Infused Porter 4.8% ABV
– Brown Sugar Brown Ale 8% ABV
– Cherry Candy Red 6% ABV
Overall I was pleased with everything they had on tap! I was partial to the seasonal beers, but there was nothing on their list that I didn’t like. For those who like sweeter beers, their Cherry Candy Red and the Brown Sugar Ale were off the charts. I also LOVED the Vanilla Infused German Wheat, a perfect German style beer with a vanilla aroma.
Between the atmosphere of the cozy barn, to the delicious brews on tap, Cold Spring Brewery should definitely be a go to stop when you’re visiting Cape May. While you’re there, definitely be sure to check out Historic Cold Village. Both admission to the brewery and the grounds are free.
Cheers!
