New Jersey Diner Review #314: The City Diner in Jersey City
If you’re looking for a hip diner with unique offerings and a full cocktail menu, The City Diner in downtown Jersey City is the place for you. Located on Montgomery Ave, close to Exchange Place, the diner is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Open since 2010, the City Diner is a seasonal, from-scratch kitchen with a full bar. The diner features rustic modern decor, hardwood floors, cushioned seats and booths, and free WiFi.

– The Jersey Devil Melt (Melted cheese over grilled Taylor ham & deviled egg salad on a croissant)

I started with bottomless coffee, but when my coffee arrived I knew I wouldn’t need another cup! It was essentially a bowl of coffee. Their coffee is also 100% Fair Trade Organic which was a nice added bonus.
Since it was between breakfast and lunchtime I decided to get a breakfast sandwich, which normally would be an easy decision but the City Diner has a list of amazing sounding breakfast sandwiches so it was hard to choose!
Eventually, I picked “The Urban”, a sandwich made with two scrambled eggs, caramelized onions, cheddar cheese, chives & chipotle aioli on a brioche bun. Hard to resist.
If you’re looking for breakfast, this is the place to be especially since they serve breakfast all day. Additionally, the diner has a special Saturday and Sunday brunch which is served from 10:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. And don’t forget happy hour!
