Luxury Seats and Big Screens, Cinemark Theatre Opens in Watchung

Before it opened to public, I got the chance to visit the first Cinemark movie theater in Somerset County located in Watchung, NJ. The newly-constructed theater is officially open as of this post, Thursday, April 18, 2019.

Located at 1670 Route 22 East, the Cinemark theatre features 10 auditoriums with a top-notch immersive entertainment atmosphere for moviegoers with a host of amenities including:
– Luxury Loungers – Plush, heated oversize recliners with cup holders and footrests
– XD Auditorium – Cinemark’s largest wall-to-wall screen at this theatre, with state-of-the-art projector capable of 35 trillion colors and custom surround sound system
– Party Room; – Private room available for rent
– Reserved seating – Online and kiosk ticketing reservations available

This is the second Cinemark movie theater in New Jersey, with plans for a third coming soon to Wayne.

Among county, borough and other executives in attendance to commemorate the new Cinemark Watchung and XD Theatre at the pre-opening VIP event were:
Keith S. Balla, Mayor of Watchung; Michael V. Kerwin, CEO of the Somerset County Business Partnership; Benjamin Schall, CEO of Seritage Growth Properties (who are the developers for this site, The Shoppes at Watchung); Watchung Council Members Steve Black, George Sopko, Daryl Eisenberg Knegten, Lindsay Goodloe; Watchung Administrator Thomas Atkins; Amber Murad, Chair of the Watchung Historical Committee; and former Watchung Mayors Stephen Pote and Albert Ellis.

I got to watch them cut the “ticket” to officially open the new movie theater.

Also in attendance was “Front Row Joe”, Cinemark’s official mascot.

The theater offers all your favorite movie snacks including popcorn, soft drinks, coffee, and more. They also have Pizza Hut pizza (and cookie pizza!), hot food selections, Hershey’s chocolate chip cookies, and Edy’s ice cream as part of their movie snacks.

During my visit I checked out the the XD auditorium with it’s massive screen.

I also enjoyed sitting in their reclining seats, and was a big plus to have heated seats.

Another thing I enjoyed about this theater was their dedication to recycling.

The theater is the first business in this new Watchung development on the site that was formerly Sears, with additional consumer businesses going up on this Route 22/Terrill Road destination center called The Shoppes at Watchung. The Shoppes will include stores like Home Sense, Ulta, Sierra Trading Post and restaurants like Chik Fil-A and Zinburger.

A great night out at the movies! Be sure to take advantage of their Tuesday night $5.50 discount night!

Moviegoers will also be able to sign up for the Cinemark Movie Club, their monthly movie membership program. Offering unique discounts and other benefits, Cinemark’s program has garnered praise in the industry and quickly become popular among moviegoers, with a milestone of over a half-million members (over 550,000) in the first year, since the Movie Club’s launch in December 2017.
