Cheers! Colts Neck Stillhouse Keeps in Classy in Colts Neck
On a Sunday Funday, my husband and I ventured to Colts Neck (yes, we stopped at Delicious Orchards) to Colts Neck Stillhouse, a newer distillery in Monmouth County.
The distillery makes their own distilled American gin, white rum, bourbon whiskey, rye whiskey, and wheat distilled vodka. All of their liquor is available to be tasted straight or in a delicious handcrafted cocktail.
You can do a tasting flight of their spirits (price ranges from $20-$30 depending on how many you choose to sample). The samples are shot size but should be sipped so you can enjoy the flavor.
Personally I feel the distillery stands out due to their cocktail list. The cocktails are creative and are named for pop culture references. I started my experience with a “Rum Weasley” (vanilla-winter spice, rum, lemon, and torched cinnamon. And yes, it’s really torched cinnamon which they make to order.
As a Harry Potter fan, I enjoyed the name of this cocktail but the ingredients that make this drink are perfect for me. It’s a fantastic winter beverage.
Other fun cocktails include the Rye’Narok (rye, cardamon bitters, pomegranate pepper redux), the Mandalori’Gin (earl grey gin, honey, lemon, egg white, pepper), and Lemon Actually (lemon, vodka, lemongrass, club soda, and lavender bitters).
It did not surprise me that my husband ordered a “Pickle Rick” as his first cocktail. For pickle lovers it’s a basic combination – vodka, pickle, and brine. It’s not for me, but you pickle lovers enjoy.
The design of Colts Neck Stillhouse includes a large window where you see all the machinery that makes their liquor, a circular bar, and a winding staircase that leads to a private room for parties.
There is plenty of outside seating in the front and back of the building (dogs are allowed!). Since it was Winter they had igloos with heaters which was a nice added touch.
Before I left I enjoyed one more cocktail – “Not My Gumdrop Buttons”. As I started at the cocktail list, the ingredients of this drink intrigued me. The drink is made with hot tea, rye, lemon, gingerbread syrup with gumdrops on top.
Not only was this a pretty drink, it warmed me up and was delicious as well. Of course it’s a seasonal cocktail, but based on how creative the drinks were for Winter I’d be happy to check them out in the Spring!
