Broad Street Diner in Keyport: 100th Diner Review!
Back on February 1st, 2016 I visited the Broad Street Diner in downtown Keyport with my friend and fellow blogger, Hollie aka FueledbyLOLZ, along with our spouses. This diner had been named the by the Munchmobile/NJ.com, so I knew I had to check it out ASAP.
I have been to downtown Keyport before. It’s a great area right on the waterfront with lots of antique shops, restaurants, and bars. The first time I walked around the area I noticed that there was a small diner in town called Stanley’s Seaport Diner. More recently in October, I took the Keyport ghost tour and walked past the same diner only this time it was the Broad Street Diner. So, in the year that it’s been opened it already won the title of best diner in NJ? That’s really impressive.
I loved this diner inside and out. It’s smaller, but it has the shiny silver exterior that I love. Inside it is just as cute, with checkered flooring and vintage signs plastering the walls. Their diner counter was filled with locals who all knew each other, we seemed to be the only outsiders.
When we went it was a Monday night, and they happen to do a really great dinner special on Mondays and Tuesdays. For only $10 you can get an entree with a soup or salad AND a dessert. What an amazing deal! In fact, their menu overall was very reasonably priced.
Because I never pass up a good deal, I ended up doing one of the diner specials. I ordered the “Broiled Stuff Filet of Flounder” mainly because the patron next to us got the same thing and it looked amazing (Plus our waitress gave it the thumbs up).
For the soup I got matzoh ball (my favorite) and it ended up being a decent sized bowl with a HUGE matzoh ball. LOVED it.
The soup was so filling that by the time my entree came I was actually a little bit full. So when my meal came I was overwhelmed at how big the portion was. Did I mention this was only $10? Everything about this meal was fantastic. The fish was cooked beautifully, the bread & crab stuffing was delicious, their was a lemon sauce on top that I loved, and the mashed potatoes were creamy and plentiful. It might be one of the best meals I’ve had at a diner.
My husband ended up getting a “Juicy Lucy” burger, something that he’s only had when he visited Minnesota. If you’re unfamiliar, the Juicy Lucy is a burger that was created in Minnesota where the cheese is cooked INSIDE the burger. Put that baby on a tasty bun with a side of crispy fries and you have a happy customer.
I ended my meal with a rice pudding which came with my special. Great sized portion with the right amount of whipped cream. Did I mention it was only $10? I think I did…
Overall I had a great time at this diner and enjoyed everything I ate. I will most definitely be back soon since their prices are insanely reasonable and their menu had lots of things (without being overwhelming) to try on another visit. A breakfast visit is definitely in the works!
I can’t believe this is my 100th diner review! I must plan a post soon to reflect on all of that…
