The Barnegat Diner: Review
“Sometimes you want to go where everybody knows your name”. When I walked into the Barnegat Diner I was instantly reminded of Cheers, a place where everybody (except us) seemed to know each other.
Located in a strip mall in Barnegat, NJ, the Barnegat Diner is a Long Beach Island diner that takes pride in their famous lighthouse. They have a painting on the outside and on the inside of the building!
We were greeted by a super friendly and funny host who ended up being our waitress. She seemed to know every local in the place as well as what they were most likely going to order. It was very refreshing to see a staff that wants to treat their customers like family. Too bad we don’t live closer!
The diner boasts that their food is so good you won’t believe it’s from a diner. As a diner enthusiast, I believe that most (but definitely not all) diners in New Jersey serve up quality food regardless, so I was definitely interested to see if the Barnegat Diner lived up to their slogan.
Their menu had your typical diner fare; breakfast all day, sandwiches, burgers, salads, bigger entrees etc. Everything on the menu was very reasonably priced, nothing seemed to be over $15. Their was nothing on the menu that truly stood out, however since they’re near the ocean I would bet their seafood options are most trust worthy than others.
I decided to get a chicken cheesesteak which was served with sauteed mushrooms and onions. As you can see it was served on a kaiser roll…which is because they literally just rain out of hoagie rolls. Oh well.
The sandwich itself was very good, but for me the stand out of my meal were the fries. Soooooo good….soooo crispy. I was very content with my meal overall.
Barnegat Diner is now in my mind as the “Cheers of Diners”, which as someone who has binge watched the entire series of Netflix deems that a HUGE compliment. If you’re in town I definitely recommend checking out this local spot.
