Angry Erik Brewing Co: Review
My friends and I visited Angry Erik Brewing Co on one of the coldest days of the year to celebrate the 2nd Anniversary of this New Jersey brewery as well as the 28th Birthday of my friend Eric, who is also the brother of my friend and NJ Blogger, Creating Krista. Krista and I have been tackling a lot of the northern NJ breweries together along with our spouses.
When we got there we were blown away at how busy they were…but not surprised. It was their 2nd anniversary after all! They even has these cute cookies to celebrate.
We took a quick self guided tour before grabbing some beer. Some of us opted for flights, while others went for pints. Both were reasonably priced (a flight was four beers for $6), and you got to keep the glass that day if you got the pint ($6)! This is what they had on tap that day:
The names of the beers went with the Norweigan theme of the brewery. I love when a brewery goes with a theme, especially one that is personal to the founders.
Beers I tried:
– Ravol 6.8% ABV; The Ravol, which literally translates to an Amber Ale, smells of citrus and has a hoppy finish.
– The Dainty Viking 7.6% ABV; A blonde ale that smells of florals
– Table 19 7% ABV; A brown ale that combines ginger and smoke with smooth caramel malts
– Dragon Booty w/ Vanilla Infusion 8.5% ABV; A stout with a Vanilla aroma and finish
I regret my decision not to get the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Dragon Booty since I love a bourbon barrel aged-beer. Oh well. Ultimately my favorite of the 4 was the Dragon Booty with vanilla. It paired really nicely with chocolate covered popcorn that they were offering that day as well. Apparently I really enjoy a Vanilla stout, since that was my favorite of the last brewery I visited. Go figure.
Here is a picture of all our brew. We had a productive day:
Next time I visit, I probably won’t go to visit on an anniversary date since it was so busy, but it could be that busy all the time! It definitely had a local vibe and support of the community.
All and all, this was a great place to visit in Sussex County and another great brewery to add to the list. Craft beer has definitely taken over the state as “destination” activity. I hope it brings more craft beer enthusiasts to New Jersey.
Finally, here is the birthday boy in all his glory, hiding behind the Angry Erik anniversary cup:
