Wellness Wednesday: SoJo Spa Club in Edgewater

It’s not every day you get to treat yourself to a spa day, so if you’re going to do it…do it right. Sojo Spa Club, located in Edgewater, is an all-day spa club where you can enjoy saunas, pools, massages, body scrubs, and great food.

It’s essential to note that Sojo Spa Club is open year-round 365 days a year from 9:00 am – 9:30 pm. I mention this because I visited during the WINTER and was able to enjoy all of their outdoor amenities.

Here are a few things that the spa offers: heated outdoor baths and pools, multiple saunas, and world-class massages. Indoors you’ll find pools & baths, therapy rooms, plus a multi-fusion restaurant and lounge.

You’ll start your day by removing your shoes and you’ll remain shoeless your entire time. Then you’re off to retrieve your comfy robes and towels. Be sure to bring a bathing suit and sandals!

You can easily spend all day there. Their daily admission includes access to all pools, baths, saunas, and bathhouses, lockers to store your belongings, and complimentary towels & robes to use during your stay.

I visited all the different pools. Their hydrotherapy pool and their rooftop Infinity Pool overlooks the NYC skyline (and they’re heated!).

Outdoors you’ll also find a Hinoki Bath, a silk bath, and a Carbon-rich Bath all designed to treat your skin in different ways.

There’s also a foot massage path!

Indoor amenities include different saunas like their Himalayan Salt Sauna, Charcoal Sauna, a Far-Infrared Sauna and a Red Clay Sauna which has clay imported from Korea.

We also checked out their Ganbanyoku Sauna, an authentic Japanese ganbanyoku, or bedrock bathing, experience.

In addition to saunas, they have an Ice Room for a full cryotherapy experience, a Relaxation Lounge (A designated indoor quiet space with reclining lounge chairs and floor mats), hot stone beds, and a fitness center!

Treatments include Korean body scrubs, massages (aromatherapy, deep tissue, shiatsu, maternity), and acupressure that is rooted in the ancient Chinese healing arts of reflexology and Japanese shiatsu massage.

We decided to try their Volcanic Sand Bath, where we got to reap the detoxifying benefits of the Japanese tradition of sand bathing brought to SoJo Spa Club all the way from Ibusuki, Japan. SoJo is the only spa outside Japan to offer a treatment using the naturally occurring volcanic sand from Ibusuki.

We were buried! The mineral-rich volcanic sand is naturally alkaline, boosting its detoxifying & anti-inflammatory properties. It also carries heat from underground springs warmed by the nearby volcanoes. Definitely a unique experience.

If you are attending the spa for a treatment (massage, body scrub etc) that are $195 or more (individual, not combined) you’ll receive two complimentary hours to SoJo Spa Club.

For those traveling to the spa, they also have a hotel! Included in your hotel stay is an entrance into SoJo Spa Club for the duration of your stay, from check-in to check-out.

And the food! The food at Sojo is delicious. I enjoyed a tuna poke bowl.
