FeaturedNJIB's Ice Cream Quest

Tomorrow is National Ice Cream Day! The Quest Continues (Part 3)!

Tomorrow is National Ice Cream Day! If you’re tired of seeing ice cream on NJIB…I’m sorry! July is National Ice Cream month so I have been doing my best to go to as many ice cream places around the state as possible. Here are a few more that I added to my list:

Magic Fountain (Hudson County)

300 Williamson St, Elizabeth, NJ; (908) 351-3133
498 Morris Ave, Summit, NJ; (908) 273-2565
1081 Stuyvesant Ave, Union, NJ; (908) 687-1250
Ice Cream Choice: Oreo and Cookie Dough; Friends Choice: Cake Batter and Pistachio
Although I did not hit up the “original” Magic Fountain, I very much enjoyed my visit to the location in Union. Homemade ice cream set at a very low price. Cash only! I decided to go with two cookie flavors, oreo and cookie dough. I got a small which is 2 scoops and it’s fairly big. My friend’s cake batter was one of the better cake batter ice creams I’ve tried.

Cookman Creamery (Monmouth County)

Address: 711 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park, NJ; (732) 361-5215
Ice Cream Choice: Chocolate Banana and Nutter Brudder
Located in downtown Asbury Park, Cookman Creamery is known for having Vegan ice cream in addition to their traditional. Their vegan ice cream was voted the best in Vegan Ice Cream in 2015. Their ice cream is homemade, and they have lots of creative flavors. I loved their chocolate banana, which tasted just like a chocolate covered banana and their “Nutter Brudder” which was a bunch a cookies mixed with peanut butter. A “double” or a medium will cost you $4.75 for regular and an extra dollar for vegan. Other cool flavors include Lemon Ginger, S’mores, Thunder Road, and Espresso.

Gracie and the Dudes (Monmouth County)

Addresses:1062 Ocean Avenue, Sea Bright NJ
52 Laird Street, Long Branch, NJ
40 West Front St, Red Bank, NJ
Sadie’s Sundaes; 973 Hwy 36, Atlantic Highlands, NJ
Ice Cream Choices: I got to sample Strawberry, Chocolate Chocolate Chop, Amaretto Biscotti, Cappuccino Chunk, Pistachio, and Mint Chocolate Chip.
I was lucky enough to meet with one of the owners from Gracie and the Dudes and got a tour of their facility in Sea Bright which is right across from the beach. Their ice cream contains no artificial coloring or corn syrup! Their pistachio (one of the best I’ve ever had) was not green, and neither was their mint chip. Great, creative flavors with quality. Loved it! PS. Cash only

Gil and Bert’s (Middlesex County)

Untitled3
Address: 69 N Main St, Cranbury, NJ; (609) 203-6931
Ice Cream Choice: Salted Caramel Truffle
I love discovering a great ice cream place randomly! I found this homemade ice cream place while I was in the Cranbury area, but apparently I was one of the last people to discover it. The place was PACKED on a rainy night! That definitely says something. I got the salted caramel truffle which was delicious! Other flavors on their menu were “100% cotton candy’, Bada Bing Cherry Vanilla, Junior Mint, and Milk and Cookies. This is a cash only place and their prices are cheap! $1.50 for a kiddie, and $3 for small (4-6oz). In addition to their homemade ice cream, they also offer Gifford’s ice cream.

Freezy Freeze

Ice Cream Choice: Peanut Butter
Not only do they sell ice cream…they make it right in front of you! I was lucky enough to try the liquid nitrogen ice cream at the Red Bank Farmer’s Market. Note: no address since they are a food truck! AMAZING ice cream, definitely unique!

Honorable Mention: The Guac Spot The Guac Spot is not an ice cream place, however they make amazing AVOCADO ice cream which I got at the NJ Bacon Festival. SO good! Plus it had caramelized bacon on top…
