Sweet Avenue Bake Shop: A Vegan Bakery in Rutherford, NJ
Cupcakes are truly just one of life’s simple, sprinkle-covered joys. However, if you are vegan or allergic to dairy, eggs, nuts, or gluten, it’s not as often you get the opportunity to indulge. But if you head over to Sweet Avenue Bake Shop (53 Park Ave) in Rutherford, you have nothing to fear except perhaps having trouble choosing which cupcakes to try. With an adorable pink storefront this gem is hard to miss.
This petite and charming cupcake shop is owned and run by Danielle Vance who has been baking for most of her life. From her starting point of baking cookies from home, she has managed to make her mark in the baking world, including a feature on the Tyra Banks Show.
As is often said in the culinary world, we eat with our eyes first. These cupcakes are so cute and pretty that it only makes the anticipation of sampling these divine confections all the better. They also feature seasonal delights, and I have to say I was thoroughly charmed by the little snowmen and Christmas trees on the holiday cupcakes. After a few minutes of browsing nearly 20 flavors, I picked out the Boston Cream, Baby It’s Cold Outside (in chocolate), Birthday Cake (gluten free), Strawberry Cheesecake, Old Skool, a Red Velvet Cake Truffle, and a Chocolate Banana Cake Truffle which is not pictured simply because I devoured it before I got home. I regret nothing.
While cupcakes are certainly the spotlight item, there is more! Danielle designs and creates beautiful cakes for any occasion including weddings! There are also cookie sandwiches, chocolate chips, brownies, banana bread, crumbcake, marshmallows, and jars of vegan cookie dough you can take home and bake (or just eat from the jar…Don’t judge me!). Sweet Avenue is confectionery heaven to both vegans and people with dietary allergies.
The icing on top of this business is that there is heart behind the sweetness. Danielle also offers her services to help worthy causes such as charity events, and regularly donates to animal shelters/sanctuaries as well as several other organizations.
What is there not to love about a business that produces smiles not only through delicious baked goods, but with compassion and hope for those in need? This is why I love Sweet Avenue and believe it is a valuable business for the vegan community, as well as the wonderful state of New Jersey. I highly encourage those in the area to make their way to Rutherford the next time they are craving something sweet.
