Holy Guacamole! The Guac Spot in Verona is NJ’s ONLY Avocado Inspired Restaurant
I love avocados, and I’m lucky enough to say I’ve been a fan of the Guac Spot since the beginning!
Established in June 2015 as a tented business that frequented farmers markets and events, to a food truck in October 2016, and now a restaurant in downtown Verona (established Dec 18, 2018), this award winning business is definitely a unique spot in New Jersey.
Husband and wife team Syl and John Gonzalez took the leap in 2015 and started their business after wanting to move away from the 9-5 jobs. Syl admits that avocados were the first green thing she ever ate, and after falling in love with guacamole she decided to make her own. Syl quit her job and went full time, and John joined her full time when they got their food truck.
The rest they say is history.
The Guac Spot puts guac in everything(& they only use 100% Hass Avocados)! From their tacos to their rice bowls, burritos, avocado toast, desserts, and more you will definitely find things on their menu you won’t find anywhere else.

Their new fast casual restaurant is avocado inspired, from their wall paper to their bright green coloring. They also have fresh flowers on every table which gives it a nice touch.
The most popular items on their menu range from their shrimp tacos…
to their avocado corn bread (seriously…amazing. Plus it’s Vegan)
…and their Avo-Chocolate Chip Cookies which may be my new favorite dessert. If you’re visiting the Guac Spot and they have them, grab them! They are only baked twice daily! I definitely indulged in one (and took one for the road).
Vegans and Vegetarians can rejoice because the Guac Spot has plenty of options. They have vegan Spring Rolls, Sweet Potato & Chickpea Tacos, Black Bean & Quinoa Tacos, and their signature avocado toast.
I indulged in Apple Jack Tacos (jackfruit, spiced up vegan BBQ sauce, citrus slaw, green apple, guac) and it was one of the best things I’ve ever had. Plus it was the first time I’ve had jack fruit.
Overall I had a beautiful meal, complete with their delicious Hibiscus Flower Aqua Fresca.
Really…one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
My biggest recommendation is to not leave the Guac Spot without dessert! Their avo-Cannoli (w/Candied Bacon Ends) is as good as it sounds, and their avocado ice cream is one of my favorite things (you can take it home in pints)
Overall, the Guac Spot is perfect for avocado lovers, but if you don’t like avocado their meals can be served without it (but…get the guac). I trust that if you visit them once you will be back!

PS. Be sure to check out their bathroom.
