Exploring the Englishtown Auction

The Englishtown Auction, or the Englishtown Flea Market, is a big year round flea market located in Englishtown (Monmouth County), New Jersey. It’s a very popular flea market where people travel from all over the tri-state area to visit.

I live in the area very close to Englishtown Auction and I must admit that I don’t take advantage of it as much as I should. I should also note that in our area we have a thing called “Englishtown Auction Traffic” because when it’s warm out Route 527 is PACKED. Luckily, if you’re local, you know how to avoid it.

I love that the flea market is open year round. There are 5 indoor buildings (green, red, yellow, blue and grey) filled with stores and food.Their indoor stores have everything from pet supplies, vintage toys, antiques, bar ware, comic books, records, guitars, jewelry, plants, home decor, paintings, clothing and so much more. It’s really impressive. Some stores are open seasonally, and some stores are only open one day per weekend, so it definitely helps to visit the Auction more than once.

One of my favorite part of this particular visit was getting fresh french fries from Dave’s Made Fresh French Fries (located in the blue building). I got a “small” fries which was enough for two people and only cost $3.  They were delicious!

There is no shortage of food at the Englishtown Auction. They have Chinese food, breakfast food, soup stands, Mexican food, pickles, candy, pizza, nuts, and much, much more. They even have a patio bar called the Mainbrook Tavern which is fairly new where you can grab a drink. They even have food trucks!

They are also home to one of the best kettle corn stands in New Jersey. Trust me, I can vouch for it.

If you’re looking to go when it’s not that busy, my tip is to go when it’s colder. Part of the draw to the auction is the hundreds of tables outside where anyone can sell things. This can range from old DVDs, antiques, tools, items that clearly fell off the back of a truck, computers, clothes, household items and much, much more. It’s a bargain hunter’s paradise where nothing has a real price tag. I once bought an antique film camera (for decor use) for only $10. Where else can you buy someone’s random old trophies?

The Englishtown Auction has been around since 1929 and it’s not going anywhere. It’s a great place to spend the day and do some shopping. You literally never know what you’ll find. Every experience there is different!
