Everybody Likes Pitman, New Jersey!
According to their slogan, Everybody Likes Pitman (New Jersey). Since I have family who live there, I decided to explore the area of Uptown Pitman, a location in South Jersey that I can now recommend to YOU to visit. If your looking for shopping, theater, restaurants and even craft beer…Pitman is the place for you!
Parking is free in Uptown Pitman which is really convenient since most uptown/downtown areas have metered parking. This is also handy for commuters since there is lots of public transportation that goes through the area.
If you love thrift stores, then you will enjoy a shopping trip to Pitman. They have a few different thrift stores including Samaritan Thrift, Best Finds, and Chic But Cheap Thrift Store.
While you’re shopping you can grab some coffee from the Caffeinated Cyclist, a boutique style cafe and bike shop featuring fair trade coffee.
There are lots of independent business owners in Uptown Pitman who specialize in fun things you’d might like to check out. For the Irish enthusiast, they have a store called A Touch of Ireland, which specializes in Irish Imports including Irish sweaters, jewelry, china, crystal, and even food!
Alaura Kitchen and Candy, an ice cream and candy shop that caught by eye, makes their own caramels.
And I also much mention Chloe’s Creme Puffs who spealizes in cream puffs. Check out their Facebook page, because they are definitely concocting unique items.
I personally enjoyed walking through Crossroad Comics and Collectibles, a comic book store filled with new comics as well as older comics, toys, and lots of fun nerdy vintage items.
There are lots of great local stores in Uptown Pitman from home decor to gifts to flowers. They will even inspire your inner artist at locations like Fahrenheit Ceramic Studio, Lil’ Art House, and Meinhart’s Gallery & Curio, Inc.
One of the reasons why Uptown Pitman is a destination area is due to the historic Broadway Theatre. My family members have season passes to enjoy all the theater productions performed yearly there. Additionally, the Broadway Theatre gets lots of special events as well. Not to mention it’s one of the most popular locations in South Jersey to be photographed on Instagram. It truly is a beautiful theater!
If theater is what is driving you to Uptown Pitman, than you must check out their fabulous restaurants before or after a show. There are no chains here, all of the restaurants in the area are one of a kind.
Pitman is a dry town, so all of these restaurants are BYOB. It may be surprising to hear this, but despite being a dry town there are not one, but two breweries being built there. Kelly Green Brewing Co and Human Village Brewing Co are two doors down from one another, and although as of this post (Mar 21, 2016) they are not open yet, once they are you should definitely grab a beer at their locations or take a growler to go at one of the restaurants. A lot of the local restaurants will be creating pairing menus so you enjoy your beer with their food.
Pitman does events all the time so there is always a good time to visit. They have a fourth Friday event where you shop and eat along Broadway and even take a carriage ride. They do this year round!
Did I mention everything here is walkable? It’s a beautiful thing. I can’t recommend it more. Please visit Uptown Pitman and support these local businesses.
