An Aussie in New Jersey: The Asbury Hotel
Usually I am off exploring a new town, but this time I was lucky enough to pop down the road to have a tour of the uber trendy hotel, The Asbury – a perfect blend of what the Hip Asbury Park area has to offer which has also been carefully intertwined with nostalgic Asbury Park of yesteryear.
From the minute you enter the building you immediately want to start exploring. There is a board when you walk in letting you know what is going on at The Asbury each day ranging from musical guests, movies, and more. When we went it was Bill Murray Monday, so they were showing “Space Jam” on their roof top cinema which was really cool.
Jenni, who I found discovered is a fellow Aussie, showed us around and it was evident by her passion that the hotel is something that everyone is very proud of. My big take away was how The Asbury has become a hub, showcasing treats from local bakeries (like Purple Glaze and Confections of a Rock Star), music and artwork by local artists, local craft beer, and a view to die for.
So lets start on the ground floor. The entry foyer is a true networking hub, loads of conversation spaces, live music, vintage board games, arcade games on loan from the local Silverball Museum, and a cool little grab and go for sandwiches, coffee, pastries etc.
The ground floor also features music throughout the years on cassette, CD, record etc which you can choose to listen to as well as a great bar.
A must is the vintage photo booth straight out of a scene from the classic movie Beaches.
Basically every single wall, corner and floor of The Asbury has purposeful style and designed for you to touch, play, eat and drink.
Moving up to the higher floors brings some pretty spectacular features and Im not just talking about the views. The elevator doors open to two spaces that are open to the public, not just hotel guests. One space features an outdoor movie cinema, The Baronet, where anyone can enjoy a movie ranging from a classic film to a cult classic for only $7. On certain mornings The Asbury also hosts yoga classes in this space taught by local instructors (also open to the public).
The second space offers an incredible roof top bar with plenty of seating with 360 degree views of Asbury Park. I got a kick out of the painted on rugs on the floor. That is definitely unique!
The outdoor spaces dont stop there, the hotel also includes a beer garden complete with a food truck restaurant and a craft beer truck featuring local New Jersey beer. This is a great space where you can enjoy sitting outside and playing games like corn hole.

The Asbury also features a very tempting club style pool, however this is the only feature at the hotel that is exclusive to hotel guests.
All in all I give the property a big Aussie in New Jersey thumbs up; you know where you will find me this Summer!
