An Aussie in New Jersey: Lambertville

With the weather warming up, Spring is the perfect time to explore New Jersey! I’ve been looking forward to getting out and exploring some more towns with cool events and festivals that go along with the season.

Just recently, we were looking for something to do that wasn’t too far from where we live (Monmouth County) – where we could get out and stretch our legs. So naturally we took to the internet and stumbled upon New Hope, PA……. and we thought we would give it a try. It’s still bit of a novelty for my husband and I that within hours you can be across state lines.

It was hard not to be distracted by the beautiful drive, but eventually we arrived in this adorable down that was just bustling. Every business on the main street and all the side streets were open and filled with customers. The streets were also filled with people, talking and walking their dogs in the beautiful afternoon sun. Before we had even parked the car I was out and looking at the Lambertville Station – safe to say we didn’t make it across the river.

Lambertville is full of quirk, charm and friendly people. One of the things I love about exploring is meeting people; I will talk to anyone so it’s extra exciting when they talk back.

I couldn’t get past how amazing Lambertville Station was, so when we discovered it was a restaurant and not a train station I was in like a flash. We ate inside and it felt very grand, it has an old world charm mixed with a mountain lodge feel, plus the food was incredible. Those that know me also know that I have severe food envy, so naturally I sampled off everyone’s plate at our table.

If you like antiques and knick knacks, this is definitely the town for you – there are so many great antique stores, galleries, home decor stores, boutiques and of course cafes and restaurants that it would take you a week to go into all off them – but luckily for me that means a chance to go back.

The People’s Store, an antique store that my mum loved, stands out with the coolest looking building from the outside. It has a bit of a New York feel with a very detailed mural. Not only is the store filled to the brim with old world goodies, but they also have a design centre with some fantastic one-off pieces that may or may not have made it back to our little home.

If antiques aren’t your thing then you have to stop in at ZINC, the second I walked in I was immediately prepared to move in and make it my home; this is the coolest little homeware shop ever. It’s three levels of “oooohhhhsss” and “aaaaahhhhhsss” that makes you want to build a house around what you found in every nook and cranny of the store. Just across the road and around the corner is also a must see shop called America Antiques & Design. This was my husband’s pick; you can’t take photo’s inside but the best way to explain it was like being in an episode of American Pickers.

Apart from the stores, I equally enjoyed just roaming the streets and looking at the beautiful architecture.

I love the huge white first Presbyterian church which is a stark contrast to the other buildings around it, followed by the row homes in the side streets, Lambertville station which sits by the unused rail road, the idyllic canal and of course, the Delaware River.

Those are just a few of my favourite things I found in Lambertville.

I hope you liked my little wrap up of Lambertville. Make sure you head out and explore it for yourself.
