NJISNTBORING Ice Cream Quest Spotlight: Alaura Kitchen & Candy in Pitman

I’m a big fan of the Uptown Pitman area, and Alaura Kitchen and Candy (36 South Broadway) has made me love it even more. Located across the street from the historic Broadway Theater, this homemade ice cream and candy shop has so much charm you’ll be visiting there more than once.

For Michelle and Patrick Bradley, Alaura Kitchen and Candy started with Michelle’s grandmother’s caramels. Grandma LeOra has been making her own caramel recipe for the last 60 years, giving her caramels out as gifts for family and friends during the holidays.

Soon Michelle and Patrick learned to make it on their own, and began selling the caramels wholesale so the public could enjoy them as well.

Since they live in Pitman, they decided to set up shop in the uptown area and found a space that used to be an ice cream shop. In June of 2015, they opened Alaura Kitchen and Candy, and they learned to make and sell their own ice cream.

Their homemade ice cream is incredible! They make it all at their store too!

You can always find 16 different flavors of ice cream, and they’ll always have at least one vegan option as well. You can always find their vanilla, chocolate, and mint chocolate chip in their freezer, but you’ll also find an awesome amount of creative flavors rotating as well.

Because they use local New Jersey produce, you’ll find amazing fruit ice cream throughout the year like blueberry, peach, and strawberry. I personally loved trying their new Lemon Basil ice cream which was PERFECT for Summer.

They are also very tight with the Pitman community, and try to collaborate with them as much as possible. I personally loved their “Endgrain Espresso” made with local shop Endgrain Coffee Bar‘s delicious espresso.

I basically tried every flavor that they had, but in the end I chose the Endgrain Espresso and their Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Basically breakfast in ice cream form!

Other fun flavors they had at the shop while I was there were the Nutter Butter, the ET special (chocolate ice cream, peanut butter swirls, and Reese’s Pieces), and their Boardwalk Orange which will make you feel like you’re at the shore eating a creamsicle.

They are open year round so you’ll find lots of funky seasonal flavors throughout the year. One ice cream they make is “Irish Potato” around St. Patrick’s Day that tastes just like the candy. I know I’ll be back for that! Another popular flavor is their Cookie Butter Crunch made with speculoos cookie butter. I mean…

In addition to their candy and ice cream,  you can also get delicious food there including their hot dogs which are served on fresh buns from a local bakery, and their amazing Belguim frites which they make in house.
