Vineyard Review: Willow Creek Winery in Cape May

IMG_4860

When I visited Cape May in early November, I visited Willow Creek Winery to take advantage of their “Fire Pit and Sangria” night, which they hold on Friday nights.

Willow Creek Winery is HUGE but it’s also very cozy. They have a fire place inside and lots of room for seating. We got a spot sitting on a couch seated with another couple who was visiting from out of town. It was lovely.

We were hungry when we arrived, so we ordered tapas which they offer on their menu. I ordered a grilled cheese made with whiskey cheddar cheese on toasted rye and came with a side of tomato soup.

I shared this with my husband who got a flat bread plain pizza. Both meals were very good, and surprisingly filling!

In between ordering food and eating we opted to do a wine tasting rather than order a bottle or a glass. I wanted to taste everything that the vineyard had to offer!

They had 8 wines to taste as well as a cherry berry pomegranate sangria and a peach sangria, for a total of 10 things to try. Since the tasting was $10 for 5 tastings, my husband and I decided to split the list and get the 5 wines that appealed to us most (with sharing the wines we thought the other might want to try). It’s a good system.

My Choices:
– Wilde Cock White – Malvasia Bianca blended with Chardonnay Grapes
– Blackberry Merlot
– Wilde Cocke Apple – made from 100% NJ apples from Terhune Orchards in Princeton
– Pumpkin (special release)
– Cherry Berry Pomegranate Sangria

I loved EVERYTHING I tried, and I will also go on record and say they have the best Pumpkin wine I’ve ever had (so far).

His Choices:
– Malyasia Bianca
– Meditrina Rosa – Pinot Noir blended with Malyasia Bianca
– Wilde Cock Red – Merlot and Petite Shiraz Blend
– Wilde Cock Prestige Red – Secret Blend of reds from their farm. (It’s also 13.9% alcohol)
– Peach Sangria

In addition to be able to buy bottles of wine, they also offer growlers for their sangria and special releases.

The wine, their customer service (Shout out to Leah who was very informative during our wine tasting) and their food were all great. Having the option to buy a glass of wine and sit by a bonfire was a special experience.

I look forward to going back to Cape May and visiting this vineyard during the day!

Great wine and tapas on my first night in #capemay. Definitely check out @willowcreekwinerynj! #njvineyards #njwine #nj #newjersey #njisntboring
