Tuckahoe Brewing, Proudly Brewing in Cape May County!

Tuckahoe Brewing Co started with four friends Matt McDevitt, Chris Konicki, Tim Hanna, and Jim McAfee who started homebrewing together in 2005.  In late 2009 they started to take seriously about opening their own brewery noticing a lack of breweries in their area.

Tuckahoe Brewing Co was born in Cape May County, and since opening in 2010 (one of the oldest NJ’s breweries) they have since expanded and moved to Egg Harbor Twp…to remain in Cape May County.

According to Matt McDevitt, who I had the chance to meet, they chose Cape May County “because of its history and scenic beauty primarily. We knew the water composition and quality would be good, so we looked for a location based on its proximity to recreational areas such as campgrounds and beaches.”

Like all NJ breweries (as of this article) you will need to take a tour before sampling beers. Something that’s cool about Tuckahoe Brewing is that once you get into the tasting room you can still view their celler (fermentation area) and watch their team make beer (live!).

Beer you can expect to find at Tuckahoe are IPA’s, fruited kettle sours, red ales, pale ales, and porters. Their flagship beers include their Steelmantown Porter, New Brighton Coffee Stout, and their Angelsea Red Ale.

While we were there they had 16(!) beers on tap, so there’s something for everyone!

Beers I Tried When I was There:
– Memberberry Saison, a saison fermented with blackberry puree and sage
– Walk with Me, a Grisette fermented with a blend of farmhouse and Belgian saison yeasts
– Parum Sole, a Sour Ale
– I Want to See Mountains, an IPA made with tropical fruits like mango, guava, gooseberry, blueberries, and stone fruits.

The brewery credits the beer’s uniqueness to the composition of their water and high quality ingredients. They also instituted a rigorous quality control program, run by Head Brewer Tim Caron, to keep their beers consistently flavorful.

When you come to visit Tuckahoe’s tasting room you can high quality beers and a very friendly and knowledgeable staff.
