The Somerset Diner in Somerset: Review

So…the Somerset Diner in Somerset, NJ located in Somerset County. That’s easy to remember!

Sometimes there is a diner that you have passed hundreds of times in your life and you’ve never stepped inside. For me that was the Somerset Diner. I finally found myself there after realizing we had nothing in the house for breakfast. That excuse almost always leads me to a New Jersey Diner!

Located on Easton Avenue, this 24-hour diner is very close to Rutgers University in New Brunswick, making it a frequent stop for students at all hours of the day. The menu even caters to the students, with items like the “R.U. Triple Grill” (Grilled Rye with Melted Swiss, Pastrami & Virginia Ham), and the “Scarlet Burger” (Hamburger with Pork Roll, Egg, and Cheese).

Their menu has typical diner fare like sandwiches, salads, typical diner classics like gyros and reubens, burgers, seafood, steak, homemade soup and more!

Since we were there for breakfast, my eyes were focused on their eclectic and tempting breakfast menu ranging from awesome skillets and scramblers, pancakes, french toast, and more. They had “Royal Skillets” like the King Arthur, Sir Galahad, Sir Lancelot, and Sir Gawain which all had a fun combo of meats, cheese, veggies etc. They also had fun pancakes like Peter Pan Peanut Butter Pancakes, and fun waffles like the Oreo Waffle and the Nutella Waffle.

You could be like my husband and get a combo of a bunch of different breakfast food, which is ALWAYS a good choice.

I went with an omelette…specifically the “BTO” omelette with was basil, tomato, and onion. I had never really seen basil in an omelette before and I dug the combo with the veggies.

Needless to say because it was a diner, it was a MASSIVE portion and I ended up taking half of it home. It made a nice breakfast sandwich for lunch!

The Somerset Diner is a great, clean, funky diner and since it’s open 24-hours you don’t have an excuse not to stop by. I could really go for 3am nutella pancakes one day…
