Working from a Coffee Shop

Working From a Coffee Shop: Penstock Coffee in Highland Park

Located in downtown Highland Park sits a really great local coffee shop called Penstock Coffee Roasters. With both inside and outside seating it’s the perfect place to get work done.

Turns out I was not the only one who decided to work out of Penstock Coffee, the place was packed! I would guess at least 80% of people there were sitting there with their laptops, which definitely made me feel like I was a part of the “Working from a Coffee Shop” community in Highland Park.

Penstock Coffee is known for their house-roasted beans & espressos which can be poured over in a Chemex Brew or Aeropress. Their beverages include espresso, nitro cold brew, lattes, loose leaf tea, tisanes (herbal tea), hot chocolate, and seasonal coffee blends.

Their coffee beans comes from all over the world like Nicaragua, Columbia, Haiti, and Ethiopia.

They also have affogato (ice cream served with espresso) which they served with ice cream from Bent Spoon in Princeton.

Beverage #1: Matcha Almond Latte

Delightfully green and smooth, if I wasn’t up for trying new things I would have ordered this twice.

Beverage #2: Bhakti Chai Latte

I’m a big chai tea person, but I’ve never had Bhakti Chai before. Bhakti Chai is a blend of fresh pressed organic ginger and spices in a brew of antioxidant rich black tea. The ginger is made of fresh-pressed ginger giving it a kick!  It was delicious and sweeter that I expected.

Although they are not heavy on serving food they do serve parfaits and baked goods. They also have gluten free and vegan pastries as well!

And if that’s not enough to sell you on the place, Food and Wine Magazine voted them the best coffee in New Jersey!

If you’re a coffee fan they also sell top of the line brew equipment like aeropress, chemex, baratza, and drip kettles.

Coffee is available for sale at their shop and on their website!

Additionally Penstock Coffee overs customer-friendly “coffee cupping” 2-3 times a week. This is a general term describing a way to taste coffees where you’ll learn the semi-scientific process of experiencing coffee. You can also learn more about coffee hands on in classes and labs that they offer.

This is definitely a place I will be visiting again! From their quick Wi-Fi to their friendly environment, plus AMAZING coffee it’s the perfect place to get some blogging done! You can also find their coffee in other cafes like Cafe Brio in Hillsborough, Factory Fuel in Flemington, the Feed Truck and Coffee Club in Princeton, and Sourland Coffee in Pennington.

For more information visit their Website, Facebook and Instagram.
