Looking for a diner with lots of great options? Matthews Diner and Restaurant in Waldwick is a fine choice! Located in Bergen County, this popular diner has been around since 1952.
After walking in the door, you could tell this diner was more unique than others. The building itself has kind of a lodge feeling to it…
and the inside also has the same vibe:
It’s pretty neat. Especially considering they have this emblem. What diner has that?
Their menu was huge! And they have really cool options including chocolate chip waffles, Sloppy Joe’s nachos, fried chicken, and pita burgers to name a few.
We arrived on a Monday afternoon and the place was packed, which is always a good sign. My feeling is that they get a lot of great business for lunch because they have awesome lunch specials.
Their lunch specials come with coffee, tea, or a soft drink, soup, and dessert. How could I pass that up?
I started with an unsweetened ice tea, when my friend separately got a vanilla milkshake. I took their photo side by side. Side note: Isn’t it better when an iced tea comes with a long spoon? To me that means it’s “real” iced tea.
I passed on the soup since I wasn’t a huge fan of that day’s options, and went straight to my entree which was a chicken souvlaki sandwich. Yes, that is something I order a lot BUT I was mainly interested because they make their own Tzatziki sauce.
I was very happy with my meal, as was my husband who also got a lunch special. This pulled pork sandwich looked amazing!
And my friend’s burger? Look how huge it is!
Matthews Diner does all their baking on premises, so I was very happy my lunch special came with dessert. I got a m&m cookie to go…and I ate it for dinner. It was delicious.
Overall I was very pleased with my visit to Matthews Diner and Restaurant. Great food, great service, and lots of great homemade options.
