NJ Brewery ReviewsReviews

Grab Beer on Main Street at Highrail Brewing Co

While spending a day up in Hunterdon County, I highly (see what I did there) suggest checking out Highrail Brewing Co located in the small, cozy  historic town of High Bridge, NJ.

This dog friendly brewery is a great place to meet up with friends, grab a beer, play some games, and pick up some local food on Main St in town.

Highrail Brewing Company is a family owned craft nano-brewery with a 2.5 bbl brewhouse and 20bbl of fermentation capacity. Their goal is to “serve quality craft beer brewed in small batches, balancing traditional styles with uniqueness and innovation.”

Their taproom is comfortable, furnished with repurposed materials and conversation pieces.

Beers you can find on include:
– Bitten by a Misfit – Hazy Session IPA 4.9% ABV
– Taylor Wort’n – IPA 5.5% ABV
– Triple 6 – Brown Ale 6.8% ABV
– Black Steel – Stout 6.8% ABV
– Power’s Out – American Pale Ale 4.5% ABV
– Polka with Nane – Kolsch 5% ABV

A lot of their beers are named after the history of the town they reside in. High Bridge is active with deep ties to the American Revolution and the Central Railroad Company. The Taylor-Wharton Iron and Steel factory made munitions for the Revolutionary War.

Like most breweries we visit, we decided to get a flight so we could try four beers they had on tap.

Our flight included:
– Taylor Wort’n, a drinkable IPA with a variety of hops; Warrior, Styrian Golding, Cascade and Mosaic.
– HB Trails, a limited edition NE IPA with a citrus front and a dank bitter finish. A portion of the proceeds from each pour is donated to raise funds for NJ’s first and only downhill directional mountain bike trail on public land.
– Lucy Bees, a brown ale made with Fresh Cascade and Fuggle hops from Pittstown, and honey from Bridgewater.
– And we ended at at the GORGEously Gold, a cream ale hopped with Amarillo and Cascade, named for the Ken Lockwood Gorge (my personal fave).

Overall a great visit with friends and of course Peppy. This is truly a community driven brewery where people gather!
